Charlie Watts dies at 80 … RIP

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-58316842

"It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts," a statement said.

"He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family."

It said he was "a cherished husband, father and grandfather" and "one of the greatest drummers of his generation".

The news comes weeks after it was announced that Watts would miss the band's US tour dates to recover from an unspecified medical procedure. Watts was previously treated for throat cancer in 2004.

He had been a member of the Stones since January 1963, when he joined Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones in their fledgling group.

My favorite Charlie Watts story, as told by Keith in his book "Life";

One night on tour in the 80s, a drunk Mick calls Charlie's room waking him up asking "Where's my drummer? I need my drummer here now!!" Apparently he was working on a song in his room wherever they were staying & wanted Charlie to come play drums on it.

So Charlie takes a shower, shaves, puts on a suit/tie & freshly shined shoes, goes downstairs to Mick's room & promptly punches him out telling him, "Don't ever call me your drummer again! You're my f***king singer!"

And then went ahead & played on the track for him!!

A class act impeccably dressed even when putting Mick Jagger in his place!!

RIP
