Love her!

Jessica Walter is the best! I've been a huge fan of her's for a long time. It's amazing how she can go from characters that make you cringe (Evelyn Draper) to characters that make you laugh (Lucille Bluth). I'm so excited that she teamed up with George Segal for TVLand's new show, Retired At 35..I get so much enjoyment out of watching the two of them together..I loved the episode of Just Shoot Me! where Jessica Walter played George Segal's ex-wife! Anyway, I could talk about her for hours..She's brilliant!

I couldn't agree with you more! Watching her earlier work makes her more recent roles all that more impressive. How could anyone watching "Play Misty for Me" in 1971 ever imagine her as Lucille Bluth? Her range is just incredible - all genres, all media - and her singing! Too few people realize how wonderfully she can sing (no, I don't mean drunk karaoke as Tabitha Wilson.) And yes, seeing her work with George Segal again is a real treat because their friendship really shows through and you can tell how much they are enjoying their work. She has always impressed me as classy and dignified and my research and personal experience only confirm that (I'm writing my master's thesis on her, as well as a separate paper on PMfM.) A true role model and genuinely wonderful person!

I also talk about her for hours ... I think my friends are tiring of this! I'm hoping to start a webpage for her soon, or at least a blog, to connect with other devotees. In the meantime, I highly recommend seeing her in "Anything Goes" on Broadway if you get the chance. You won't forget it!

I've heard Jessica Walter sing a little bit in Arrested Development when she was goofing around, but when you mentioned her singing, Tabitha Wilson was the first thought that popped in to my head...LOL. Even when she was pretending to be drunk and doing karaoke, I thought she was entertaining, so I don’t doubt that she’s a great singer. The only other time I heard her sing was in Alan’s campaign commercial from Retired At 35 where she sings, “stop that and clean up your mess!” and “I said it once; don’t make me say it again!” It’s kind of catchy! She managed to sound really good and be funny at the same time! Does she sing in Anything Goes, or did you hear her somewhere else? I would love to see her in that if I could afford a trip to New York..I wish! LOL. I’m working on my undergrad right now, so I spend most of my money on school! Speaking of school, I think it’s really neat that you’re writing your master’s thesis on her, and a paper on Play Misty for Me. I would have a lot of fun writing about that, seeing as how I’m kind of obsessed with her, and I can watch that movie over and over, and it never gets old. I also think she should have a webpage or a blog; that will be great if you start one for her! Good luck! :)

You need to get a copy of the cast album from the 1968 TV movie of "Kiss Me, Kate." Jessica has two solos, "Why Can You Behave" and "True To You In My Fashion," and is featured on a couple of others. It will blow you away! She also sings on the album "Dinosaurs Big Songs." I know it sounds like it would be kitschy, but she is really great on that - "He's a Lizard" sounds like a good old torch song. She did a bunch of musicals in summer stock and what not, but those are the only two recordings that I am aware of.

That's awesome! I'll definitely look for those! I just remembered, she sings a little in a play that she was in called The House of Blue Leaves. I have an audio recording of it, and if you haven't heard it, I definitely recommend it! Her husband, Ron Leibman, is also in the play, and he sings as well; he actually sings a lot more than she does in this play, because his character writes songs. Jessica and Ron are 2 of the main characters, and they're lovers, so it's really fun to listen to the 2 of them talk back and forth, especially because you know they love each other in real life!

That's one thing I don't own yet but it's on my list!
BTW dreamer29, I sent you a private message yesterday.

I have loved this woman since she was Fran on "the dinosaurs" (I was born in 87) and I think every choice she has made has been great especially AD and Archer. She is a very beautiful talented actress and she cracks me up!!

You're precisely the demographic she's been mentioning in interviews so much lately. I agree with you about her choices - her later-career comedic roles have been fabulous. If you ever get a chance to check out her "Joanie Loves Chachi" ep or her multiple appearances on "Three's A Crowd" they are great as well. And if you watch her earlier, dramatic roles you'll be very impressed with her range and you'll probably find characters like Lucille and Malory even funnier.
