GRAND PRIX ...

... really wastes its brilliant cast: James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand, Toshiro Mifune, etc; the actors have to play second fiddle to the racecars, who are the real stars of the show. If I watch it at all it's because of Walter, who is one of my favorite brunettes. She is really hot in this film!

Grand Prix was great fun in the theater when it came out. The race sequences are more impressive on the big screen, of course, as was the soundtrack. But the rest was a standard soap opera.

And here I thought you were talking about the episode in Archer....LOL

The race sequences were beyond outstanding. It is truly amazing what they were able to shoot with technology of those days.

The cast did OK on what was written for them. I was a little disappointed that Toshiro Mifune had to be dubbed (by Paul Frees who also dubs him in MIDWAY). Because of that, I felt Mifune had to be more restrained. I always love it when he is forceful.

And in regards to Jessica Walter, I am surprised the Bond producers did not approach her (or perhaps they did) to be the next Bond woman. Truly, she was a stunning beauty!

GRAND PRIX *** out of **** stars (using Leonard Maltin's rating guide, though he himself only gave it ** stars).
