True Story, Or The Night Mamie Van Doren Went Speechless:

Several celebrities were performing comedy routines and musical numbers for an AIDS fundraiser in West Hollywood, starring, among others, LaWanda Page and Mamie Van Doren, and hosted by none other than Pia Zadora.

After the show was over---with Mamie Van Doren, the spotlighted diva, surrounded by fans and reporters and talking excitedly to the other performers downstairs in the Green Room---a drag queen in a fancy ball dress who had entertained earlier in the show and who looked every bit as glamorous as Van Doren said to her:

"I can't tell you how honored I am to meet you, Miss Van Doren. When you wore that see-through white negligee in the 1965 Playboy centerfold I was just a little boy and I jerked off to it for years and years until finally I found out I was gay."

Suddenly everybody, including Van Doren, stopped talking. Dead centerfold silence.

Personally, I fled the room before I exploded.

Later, I noticed Mamie Van Doren didn't put that little encounter in her autobiography.

I actually think she would've been flattered. The fact that she could turn on even a gay man says a lot about her sex appeal.

Knowing from what I've read about Mamie, she would love that story. Maybe Mamie was caught off guard. Still is a hell of funny story! LOL!

When all is said and done, what counts is what's true, and how we all treated one another.

I would have loved it too but probably would have been caught off guard at the moment! It is very funny!
