Doris Day

I heard that Doris Day was pretty mean towards Mamie Van Doren is that true?

reply

mamie claimed that in her book "Playing the field"
that doris was cruel to her and I believe her~

i'd know cause i was on a film set with A list
actors who claim "the fans are my life"
and I was treated well... not so good~

and mamie
was reaporatly treated worse by doris whom
she was a fan of and admired~

Thank you, what did Doris do to her?.

I think you might not want to tell me who the stars that you met were and I respect that, but none of them was Judy Garland was it?.

reply

Miss Van Doren says she was really exited to see doris
so mamie said "hi" and doris ignored her (and i think she
rolled her eyes at mamie then)~

and during the scene when mamie sings
"the girl who invented rock n' roll"
doris is supposed to look gazingly proud at
mamie with her signature dazzling "doris" smile
but on every cut back from mamie to doris LOOKING
AT mamie doris would look dull and not happy
and roll her eyes!!!! (...i know! i was shoked too!)
and so they acctually had to get a double for mamie
and they finally got the scene with doris happy~

I KNOW MAMIE IS TELLING THE TRUTH CAUSE:

1. in a book, my mom hashave a photo of doris looking at
mamie singing happily and doris looking mad~

2. I have spoken myself with mamie and she is verry kind
and sweet and loves her fans and loves life and is nice
to everyone and is just a great person~

I know this guy who likes to put my favourite stars down for being jerks (and most of them are just slandered falsely). I wonder if he knows about his beloved Doris?.

I never liked Doris Day anyway.

reply

I love them both and I think it is just a misunderstanding on Mamie's part. Doris is simply not an outgoing person by all accounts and I don't think she was being mean to Mamie. I don't consider a person not speaking to you being mean. Did she talk bad about Mamie? NO Did she try to get Mamie fired? NO. Mamie seems offended because Doris didn't apparently enjoy her song number but I don't see that as any big deal, most stars are disinterested in other stars.

she said mamie "wasn't [mentall] well"
and i have spoken with mamie and she is verry kind
and well and sweet!
but i love some of doris' movies also~

Where did she supposedly say this? I don't believe it. I have hundreds of old movie magazines with Doris Day interviewed in them and she has never gone around badmouthing people. And she has given very, very few interviews in the last 30 years. Furthermore, why not use the exact alleged quote because to say "wasn't (mentall) well" is putting words in her mouth by presuming what she meant. As I said I love them both but Mamie HAS called Doris a bitch in print, I don't know if she means it, I'm sure she knew it was a good publicity angle (after all she did say "and you can quote me" after it) and Mamie loves publicity. Doris Day is a legend that everybody knows - if I could imagine her feuding with anybody for years it certainly would not be a supporting actress in one of her movies. She is very non-show business and I doubt she has even thought of Mamie in years. But working with Doris was one of Mamie's greatest claims to fame so I can see why she might want to suggest a "feud" ala Bette and Joan. Remember Mamie has blown hot and cold about Jayne Mansfield - sometimes complimentary, sometimes definately not. I am sure Doris is completely indifferent to Mamie and Mamie probably doesn't really hate her or Jayne either, it's just a way to enliven interviews and get more attention.

There are others who've said she said that. Here's the thread:
