I read that his death scene was written into the movie because he couldn't commit to a sequel. Anyone knows what this was about?

Nope. Not at all true. Alan would have loved to work on more. His death was just Joss Whedon being Joss Whedon.

Not true at all. Joss Whedon is notorious for killing off characters that fans love. Whedon himself said at least twice had the Firefly series continued Wash would've been alive much to Alan Tudyk's delight.

You aren't allowed to like any character in a Joss Whedon show/movie. He gets jealous and kills the character off.
