OMG, He's REALLY superb

Now I've really seen it all. I just finished season 1 of Dollhouse, and I've always seen Alan as the funny man. Until last night, watching episodes "Briar Rose" and "Omega", I could not see him playing a bad guy. He was very creepy, and yet, in the beginning of "Briar Rose", he still managed to be funny as hell. And not to mention, he still looked damn good, even as a bad guy. Kudos to the guy.

yeah, the transformation from "paranoid geek" to "psycho killer" is excellent. Alan can certainly be quite scary when he wants to, hehe

agreed. he's fantastic, especially on dollhouse!

He is great in Dollhouse. Emmy-worthy really.

Also very good in Dodgeball, Wreck-it-Ralph, I-Robot, Tucker and Dale, Firefly/Serenity.

Never realized how good he really is until Dollhouse though. Alpha is a wonderful character and his switch from the pot-growing geeky genius to psycho was indeed amazing.

You have to watch his CSI Episode Burn Out. He plays a pedophile. That is when I knew Alan was BRILLIANT!

reply

I just watched him in 42 and was blown away by his transformation. He nailed that part and I wouldn't have expected him to - as I know him mostly from comedies.

Glad to see some appreciation for his CSI gig. I think that's one of his best as well.

YES! I was *really* late to the "Dollhouse" fandom (finally watched the whole series last year) and was absolutely flabbergasted by Alan's performance(s) in the show as Alpha!
Such a creepy and yet enigmatic turn that had me equal parts freaked out and weirdly aroused by his character!😨😏😍
Charming/funny fictional bad guys...sigh...they always grab me and lure me in - every time!
I think it's because the actors always look like they're having a blast playing a villain...especially if they throw in a bit of a conflicted conscious type of quality into the mix!
The whole, "They're not all bad, just deeply, deeply damaged." always tweaks my sympathy buttons - much like Jamie Dornan is doing to me in Season 3 of "The Fall" - Yeesh! 😲
This is my typical inner dialogue I experience while watching the show, "Uggh...He's a serial killer who strangles innocent women...but he's also a loving father and husband and was obviously abused himself and - OMG What is wrong with me?!? Why am I making excuses for this creep!?!" 😡
Also helps if the actor's hot...I wouldn't say that Alan falls under that subjective word, but he definitely has that 'je ne sais quoi' that is alluring and kinda sexy even though most might not consider him to be handsome in the 'classic' sense. πŸ˜˜πŸ˜™
Plus he's just a damn fine actor - and that in itself is a major turn on for me (Daniel Day-Lewis much? Hell, he somehow even made Abraham Lincoln seem attractive! He's a wizard, I tell ya!) but I digress...
Anyways, yeah - Alan rocks!
I'm Super (pun intended) excited for his new show "Powerless"! 😎
Just saw a trailer for the show tonight and Alan looks like a boss and is killing it with the comedic turn as 'Van Wayne' - Bruce Wayne's cousin! Hahaha!😝
Hope the rest of the show is as good as that trailer was!πŸ˜‰

Agree! He blew me away in Rogue One and ever since then, I'm like "Wait he was in this movie? And this one?" Turns out I've been a fan of his for a while haha. He's a very good actor but obviously falls more on the comedy spectrum. However his performance in Dollhouse was also spectacular- if only the show had lasted longer.

-Who is it?
-It's Grandpa. And it sounds like he's gotten into the horseradish again.
