Are There Any Presidents Who Have Received Purple Hearts?

I don't see why not... It's one of the most dangerous jobs in the world and they're serving their country and are commander and chief.

All these presidents have been shot while either in office or running for office.

Abraham Lincoln: Died

James Garfield: Died

William McKinley: Died

Teddy Roosevelt: Survived

JFK:Died

Robert Kennedy: Died (Of course he wasn't president but he might have been.)

Ronald Reagan: Survived

Donald Trump: Survived

Just look at this wikipedia page and how many attempts and plots there have been... it goes to show how dangerous this position is.

At the very least show some respect... the amount of disrespect in the world and certainly on the internet is disgraceful.

The fascinating thing is hardly any western European presidents or prime ministers were ever assassinated.

I wonder what made American president such a dangerous job.

reply

Yeah. Maybe it has something to do with the media. I think American Presidents on average are far more polarizing it seems and I'd put a lot of that on the media. European leaders I think may be disliked but people are less driven to commit violence there... as to why... there's probably not a simple answer to that.

The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after 5 April 1917, has been wounded or killed.

Even though the president is the commander in chief they aren't active military members. President John F. Kennedy is the only U.S. president with a Purple Heart. Kennedy, who served in the Navy during World War II, injured his back when a Japanese destroyer collided with his patrol torpedo boat near the Solomon Islands.

reply

Right, thank you. JFK being wounded. I forgot about that. I guess it's just for armed services but just wanted to point out that there are some connections there and that people who run are sticking their necks out there because it's not something that I think a lot of people realize or think about.
