Ronnie Reagan sparking more interest in Republicans

Maybe it's the "T-rump remorse" syndrome sweeping the Republican party after they've seen what a disaster he's been to the party for the past two years, but there's been quite an uptick in the interest in former republican President Ronald Reagan the past year or so. Many believe it's the 'real republicans' who want to go back to the era of the "most popular Republican President" (some say) in history.

A new 800 page tome titled "Ronald Reagan: An American Journey" hit bookstores for the Christmas season, and it's selling out across the country. Other books and documentaries have been released over the past two years, with even more on the horizon. There's been a surge in the popularity of Reagan, who sat in the White House from 1981-89. It's one of the biggest upticks for interest in him since his death in 2004. Analysts blame / credit T-rump.

Political analysts say Republicans want to turn away from 'Midnight in America' T-rump, and teach the younger generations and up-and-coming voters what it was like under 'Morning in America' Ronald Reagan, who - despite his flaws - could work 'both sides of the aisle', and bring unity between the parties. They're hoping the younger generation will appreciate how Reagan turned around the beleaguered Republican party in 1980 (thanks to Watergate and Nixon) and brought the country together - they're hoping the same can be done in 2020.

Yes, T-rump remorse is alive and kicking within the Republican party. If only Reagan could come back from the dead...

Does anyone think Ronnie Reagan would be siding with Saudi Arabia right now? He must be rolling in his grave.

Dead Ronny is better than Fat Donny

Yes, RR was popular back in the day, but unfortunately his deregulation policies were regressive and have set the table for much of what ails the US presently. Don't equate his likable personality with responsible stewardship.

Personally, I never liked Reagan.

He was tone deaf about the AIDS crisis, he gave us George H W Bush & Trickle Down, "trees cause pollution" & Iran Contra. It's been reported that Reagan & Bush made a back-channel agreement to sell Iranians arms if they'd just hold the hostages until AFTER he took office. Circumventing Congress. Against the Constitution.

Reagan ignored multiple warnings of US & foreign intelligence agencies that attacks were imminent in Beirut & it wasn't until the THIRD attack in 11 months (the 2nd one saw 241 Marines killed) so that he cut & ran - but then attacked tiny Grenada to regain his balls. Hey! It worked the year before with Thatcher & the Falklands.

It was during Ronny's reign of error that Republican rhetoric about government spending didn't match the reality. His spending on the military tripled - & he quadrupled the deficit.

And the military spending wasn't necessary - if he had just listened to his own intelligence agencies - because they knew & they reported that the Soviet Union was on the verge of financial collapse.

That's the problem with Rethugs. They don't believe the professionals. And they manufacture lies to take us into unnecessary wars.

Reagan was also demented. Really. Sundowning. He lost his marbles. But he was fine when he 'misremembered' his military service. He claimed to have liberated a concentration camp. (He spent WW2 in Hollywood.)

But one of Reagan's decisions was right up there in my Top 20 most hated presidential acts - Reagan took down the solar panels from the White House. Carter was a fucking nuclear engineer & understood science & his own eyes - knew we as a country should invest in alternative energy.

Also, Bedtime for Bonzo sucked.

I was never a fan of Reagan at all. Never. I will give him credit for repairing the party and working both sides of the aisle.

reply

Ronnie was a great President, some say that Trump may be related to him.

reply

Hey, you charitably left out some of his other errors - firing air traffic controllers (?? really? Yep, there's the dementia), creating an anti-union climate, taking too much credit for dismantling the Berlin Wall, not discouraging the NRA AFTER he and Baker were gunned down in the street -- but I forgot about the solar panels. Really sent the wrong message. Heck, if we all had made smart investments in that field (I say hesitantly) with the backing of a repub Prez, we'd be further down that road and a whole lot richer.
But ol' Jelly Beans and his crappy Hollywood career are revered by the Wrongers who desperately search for something that doesn't make them look even more callow and venal than they always have.

Ronnie is my favorite President.
