Days before the election and it's T-rump vs. Ryan!

T-rump went into full attack mode on outgoing Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan today, saying Ryan 'knows nothing' about birthright citizenship (like expert T-rump does), and should be focusing on keeping a majority of republicans in the House. The attack comes one day after Ryan challenged T-rump's declaration that he can use executive action to end the constitutional guarantee of citizenship to anyone born in the United States.

Ryan went on a Kentucky radio station yesterday, saying "you cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order," after T-rump said he can.

In retaliation, T-rump tweeted, "Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about! Our new Republican Majority will work on this, Closing the Immigration Loopholes and Securing our Border!"

A spokesperson for Ryan then said the House Speaker had 'no comment' about T-rump's remark. Ryan will exit the House after his term is finished the end of this year, as he decided to not run for re-election. However, most political analysts say Ryan, who was Romney's VP choice in 2012, is gearing up to challenge T-rump in a Republican primary come 2020 and hopes to be the party's Presidential candidate.

TRUMP 2020.

reply

More like "T-RUMP 20 to Life"

reply

You got that right!!!!!

reply

Ryan's going to try to run against Trump? Is that some sort of joke?

If this is the most that weak kneed Ayn Rand acolyte could marshal against Trump while he's Speaker of the House with one foot out the door because he's not running for re-election, he's going to flatline at the first hint of adversity.

Trump will have him for breakfast in any GOP primary.

reply

When he first announced he was stepping down and not running for re-election earlier this year, his 'inner circle' said he was gearing up for a run in 2020 for the Presidency against T-rump (or Pence). That's why he was stepping away - to distance himself from T-rump for the next two years, so no one can point fingers at him and say 'you backed T-rump' for all this time. ( I think the damage has already been done for the first two years, never mind the latter two.)

His circle also speculated Romney (his former running mate) was going to run for the Presidency as well, and sure enough that's what Romney is preparing now as well.

reply

He is really deluding himself if that's true. He looked so meek and pathetic the past couple years I have a hard time seeing what he thinks his shtick with voters will even be.

What's he going to do, try to appeal to the better angels in the Republican party when those types have already abandoned the party in droves? lulz. Not going to happen when he's proven to be such a demonstrable weakling.

Same with Romney, especially after he groveled before Trump to try and land the Secretary of State job. That was before Trump turned him down anyway after Putin told him to pick Tillerson.

Sure if they were running against him in a general election they might have a shot, but they're not. They have no chance in a GOP primary.

I always assumed Ryan never spoke out more because he's just weak and wants to make as much money as he can once he hits the lobbying circuit. The rich paydays from the likes of outfits like the Heritage Foundation wouldn't like it if he wasn't anything but a good little tool.

reply

I think both Romney and Ryan (and probably Kasich and Rubio) will run against him to win over the 'deserted Republicans' who are not part of the 'new T-rump republicans' (and there are many out there). They are trying to be the 'old school' republicans (though Ryan is not really old school) and will be the alternative to T-rump, as T-rump's base is dwindling.

reply

It doesn't look like it's dwindling fast enough when he's still got a rancid 35% of the diehards in the country which have polled out to an 85% approval rating among Republicans.

I guess there's always the chance he might resign or be impeached under scandal and that's really what pretenders like Ryan or Rubio are angling for.

But yeah I would think if there was going to be a real challenger on the right in that old school mold it'd have to be Kasich. He's the only one that hasn't gone full sycophant.

reply

I'm far from being a Republican, but I do like Kasich as the person. I enjoy his interviews on TV, and truly believe he's about the people - not the party. If he were to be President, I would be fine with that, though I disagree on his politics and policies. I hope he runs.

The others - Rubio, Romney, Ryan - no thanks.

reply

lulz. Don't worry doggie, I would never mistake you for a Republican. 😉

But OMG, I couldn't agree more. Having Kasich instead of Trump would be like manna from heaven right now. Even though it's hard to imagine, if he were to somehow dethrone Trump in a GOP primary I would exalt. That would mean no matter who won the general at least I could feel secure knowing the CiC is actually looking out for the country's best interests and not his own pocketbook or corrupt shady dealings with strongmen dictators.

It would also give me some measure of reassurance the GOP base hadn't been completely corroded by ignorant conspiracy loons. But that's also why I can't see it happening, because I'm convinced they are.

reply

I know what you mean. At least with Kasich, I would once again respect the man who holds the title. No doubt I would disagree with him on plenty, but it’s the the stuff what should be disagreed on with an opposing view. Not the mans character or lack of morals as I do now. I wouldn’t cringe whenever he would deal with foreign heads of state.

reply

Indeed. It would also be a relief getting back to having a president who you can generally trust to tell the truth. Sure all politicians lie, but it'd be nice not to have a president who you wouldn't believe even if he told you the sky is blue.

I get the sense from Kasich that he's generally a straight shooter. He's also someone I could see being conscientious and serious about tackling the ridiculous debt and deficits taken to obscene levels under Trump and doing it without gutting SS or Medicare. He'd have to raise taxes, but I could see him conscientious enough to do it.

This is why we need real debates in our campaigns - not events with pre-approved questions with hand-picked moderators.
Paul Ryan is a milquetoast idiot who EVERY reich wing blogger called the greatest economic brain since Greenspan just 4 years ago. And Trump is the guy who refuses to even read his DAILY INTELLIGENCE BRIEFS BECAUSE HE SAYS HE KNOWS MORE THAN THE GENERALS!

By the way? Remember when Trump was too scared to attend a FOX NEWS DEBATE? He bagged out of it because it was going to be on foreign policy - (and 2 years in, we can see his ignorance & why he'd skip it ) - and Trump insisted that Megyn "santa is white" Kelly had been too tough on him before.

What a pussy! He couldn't even stand up to HER? In his SAFE PLACE- GOP-tv -Fox?

Imagine the debate between Chris Christie & Donald Trump, though. THAT would be something. You're fat! You're bald! You're a crook! No, YOU'RE a crook!

reply

LOL!!!!!

reply

"The spineless vs the brainless!"

reply

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...but they're both brainless and spineless. How does one tell them apart?

reply

Does one need to be able to tell two strands of an STD apart to know they have to be cured?

reply

Lol!!!

reply

Ryan seems to have distanced himself from Trump in the last several months. Maybe he finally sees the light.

reply

I think he sees his future - or at least protecting it.
