Trump briefed of Russian election interference two weeks before inauguration

WASHINGTON — Two weeks before his inauguration, Donald J. Trump was shown highly classified intelligence indicating that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia had personally ordered complex cyberattacks to sway the 2016 American election.

The evidence included texts and emails from Russian military officers and information gleaned from a top-secret source close to Mr. Putin, who had described to the C.I.A. how the Kremlin decided to execute its campaign of hacking and disinformation.

Mr. Trump sounded grudgingly convinced, according to several people who attended the intelligence briefing. But ever since, Mr. Trump has tried to cloud the very clear findings that he received on Jan. 6, 2017, which his own intelligence leaders have unanimously endorsed.

So it's not just conjecture anymore to claim Trump has been lying EVERY TIME during his presidency he's made the claim that there was "no Russian interference or meddling" by the Russians with the 2016 elections. No wonder he hates the FBI and every other intelligence agency and thinks they're out to get him....because they are, due to his constant lying to the American people about this. This is also a case that the collusion between Trump and the Russians didn't just occur before and during the election...it's been ongoing since then.

reply

In a tweet today he referred to the media as "the real enemy of the people". So to make it clear, he refers to Putin who authorized a cyber attack on an American election as "very strong" and the media who has reported on that attack as "the real enemy". I have no idea how anyone, right, left, or center can still support him.

reply

It's mind-boggling. This shit keeps piling up until it's now stacked into a mountain of deceit, lies, and treachery...and still morons say they support him. It's saddening that there are so many people in this country who would still rather have a dangerous would-be autocrat in command of the country only because he reinforces their hate of Democrats and they're just glad he's "not Obama" or "not Hillary" (which to them means he's white and not female).

reply

If you look at a list of issues people care about, Russia does not even register. That's why the media has to put so much effort into hyping this.

We don't even believe you anyway because you have lied so much about everything from WMDs in Iraq to bringing crack into black neighborhoods in order to destroy them. Election tampering is their area of expertise because they are the ones who do it. We ought to get rid of them because it's them or us. What happened to believing the CIA killed JFK? What happened to believing Stalin was our friend and there were no gulags? New York Times denied gulags all the way through to the collapse of the USSR.

reply

Or maybe the media is just putting so much time into it because we very well may have a President who's compromised by Russia.

We'll see.

reply

Um, what? According to your argument, the media is spending too much time "hyping" the issue of Russian interference--an issue (you claim) people don't care about (which people are those? Oh yeah--Trump Kool-Aid drinkers)...so in order that people will "care about" this issue more, they should spend LESS time on it?

Wow, logic in action.

And then, you blame the media for lying about WMDs in Iraq, and claiming crack was brought into black neighborhoods to destroy them. Hate to break it to you, but it was the Bush Administration that lied about the existence of WMDs to justify their unjust invasion of Iraq, and crack was (still is) prevalent in black, poorer neighborhoods and destroying them. The media didn't invent these incidents, they merely reported them. I don't believe in shooting the messenger, especially when they're telling the truth. But I bet you do.

reply

Thrillhouse = ZERO credibility troll who doesn't respond when you disprove his mindless rubbish.

Wow - talk about a nonsensical post.

Old news. The President authorized new sanctions against Russia in September 2017 based on this intel. The sanctions remain in place today.

President Donald Trump signed into law Wednesday morning legislation that levies new sanctions against Russia

reply

Imposing sanctions doesn't change the fact that Trump claimed--and continued to claim just a day ago--that Russia either did not or claim it was not certain that that did interfere with the 2016 elections.

This report proves that he was shown the proof that they did. Fact. That's what comprises REAL news.

reply

Don't throw facts at them - they're not at all familiar with what to do with them.

“Two weeks before his inauguration, Donald J. Trump was shown highly classified intelligence indicating that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia had personally ordered complex cyberattacks to sway the 2016 American election.”

If it’s highly classified how’s the NYTimes know about it?

“The evidence included texts and emails from Russian military officers and information gleaned from a top-secret source close to Mr. Putin, who had described to the C.I.A. how the Kremlin decided to execute its campaign of hacking and disinformation.”

what source?

“Mr. Trump sounded grudgingly convinced, according to several people who attended the intelligence briefing.”

who?

Once again the Demokkkrat NYTimes has provided a story with absolutely zero evidence. “Nameless, unknown, classified, insiders, sources, experts, etc...”

It certainly provides a beautiful headline if you’re brainless demokkkrat lemming. Thank you for your post discrediting this Demokkkrat propaganda source. Post more please.

Russia sanctions authorized by The President, September 2017, remain in place.

Still no evidence of collusion.

reply

Knowledge of seeing classified data is not necessarily classified. Only the data itself. Also possible something was declassified recently.

Also, your last post claims the sanctions are based on this intel, and now you're questioning the truth of this news.

You have two sides to your mouth! Or two personalities.

Also you're ignoring Trumps lies and him spinning his own "truth" for a year and a half now, not to mention taking Putin at his word.

You thus also have no standards other than mindless loyalty to a lying racist tax cheating bully.

You two go together well.

reply

Say what you will about Trump but he was right about one thing during the campaign.....he really could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and his supporters wouldn't care.

reply

Lol, I had forgotten about that gem! Trump literally called his supporters obtuse blind lemmings, and they didn't care. He has been flipping off America for so long now.

reply

what source?

Nameless.

Like the nameless source that NYT reporter was fucking.

reply

Obama was aware of this information months earlier when he told Trump to "stop whining".

"There is no serious person out there who would suggest somehow that you could even rig America’s elections, in part because they’re so decentralized and the numbers of votes involved. There’s no evidence that that has happened in the past or that there are instances in which that will happen this time. And so, I ‘d advise Mr. Trump to stop whining and go try to make his case to get votes." Barack Obama - 10/18/2016

So Trump pretty much did the same thing after he was elected, telling the Democrats to stop whining.

And holy shit were they whining. Still are.
