Another one Bites the Dust: Bye, Bye Scott Pruitt!
Administrator Scott Pruitt has stepped down from his post as EPA head, as he drowns in a sea of scandals since taking the post. The former Oklahoma attorney general who relentlessly pushed forward President T-rump’s promises of deregulation at the Environmental Protection Agency, resigned Thursday. T-rump said he 'felt like he was being a distraction' for the administration. LOL
Pruitt resigned shortly after two Democratic Congressmen called on the IG to examine Pruitt and the practices in his office, just days after a story erupted on how Pruitt held routine meetings with his staffers to "scrub, alter or remove" controversial events from his calendar. The meetings came to light after a top assistant to Pruitt became a 'whistleblower' and went on CNN this past Sunday.
Democratic Reps. Don Beyer of Virginia and Ted Lieu of California referenced the CNN report in their letter earlier today to the EPA's Inspector General,
"Willful concealment or destruction of such records is a federal crime carrying penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment," they wrote in the letter.
Kevin Chmielewski, Pruitt's former deputy chief of staff for operations, told Anderson Cooper on CNN the staff would copy sections of Pruitt's daily calendar, and decide what would be omitted or altered before releasing the new version as his 'public calendar'. Chmielewski said this was done routinely, usually in Pruitt's office, under Pruitt's direction.
After investigating on Kevin Chmielewski's claim, CNN found over two dozen meetings and phone calls made by Pruitt which were not on his public calendar. CNN confirmed the 'scrubbed' events via emails and EPA documents.
T-rump tweeted his repsonse to Pruitt's resignation:
“Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this.”
