Bye, bye Harley Davidson! T-rump tariffs sends company packing
Harley Davidson has decided to move a huge part of it's production - and the hundreds of jobs which go with it - out of the country due to the retaliatory tariffs the company was hit with by the EU. The EU tariffs on the iconic motorcycles skyrocketed from 6% to 31% , in retaliation to T-rump's hiked tariffs on U.S. steel and aluminum imports.
Harley Davidson said they have no choice but to pack up and leave America, after they calculated the EU tariffs would be at least $100 million per year, and would have to be passed on to it's dealers and costumers with a detrimental effect on the brand. Each motorcycle sold would carry a minimum price increase of around $2200.
“Harley-Davidson believes the tremendous cost increase, if passed onto its dealers and retail customers, would have an immediate and lasting detrimental impact to its business in the region, reducing customer access to Harley-Davidson products and negatively impacting the sustainability of its dealers’ businesses,” the company announced this morning.
Harley Davidson said it plans to move 'production of motorcycles for EU destinations' to international facilities to avoid the financial burden. It did not give an exact number of American jobs it will be shedding.
Thanks T-rump! That's the way to make America great again, right?
