Seems to be in effect as of today. July for the rest of the US allies. As long as it isn't tariffing PC parts I don't really give a damn but touch games or PC hardware then I got a beef with Trump.
It will essentially touch everything comes by over here except the shit Ivanka is making over there under slave labor, and bringing back here. That was reported months ago - somehow her company got an exemption under the new laws.
But why bother? No one in America is buying her crap. No major store is selling it.
"China apparently has no intention of changing its unfair practices related to the acquisition of American intellectual property and technology," he said. "Rather than altering those practices, it is now threatening United States companies, workers, and farmers who have done nothing wrong."
He directed Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to identify $200 billion worth of Chinese goods for additional 10% tariffs, which would be enacted "if China refuses to change its practices, and also if it insists on going forward with the new tariffs that it has recently announced."
Trump also said that if China retaliates yet again, the United States would pursue additional tariffs on another $200 billion of goods.
The Chinese commit intellectual property theft and espionage on a massive scale. Real wars have been fought over much less. They should thank their lucky stars that it hasn't come to that.
The west stole intellectual property from Asia and later made laws about it when they were in a dominant position. (Brits took textile manufacturing technology from South East Asia early colonial period, I encourage you to read into it). So boo-hoo to your intellectual property gripe.
And who do you think engages in the most espionage, China or US?
Let me guess, it's only bad when THEY do it, not when you do it, right?
My issue is why haven't we heard anything from other countries complaining about US espionage or other. We only usually hear it from the US complaining about Russia/China stealing, hacking, or interfering. Either US is too good at it or it isn't as you think it is.
Can't say for sure but I would say maybe they're on par if not an advantage for China or was it Russia that focuses a lot on teaching people to code and learn hacking which US is somewhat lacking and trying to address.
In a sense, yes, since you should be rooting for your home team, the place you call home and the land of the somewhat free. Call it the lesser of two evils if you will.
The US conducts most of its espionage on itself. The Patriot Act is the ultimate cheat sheet considering so many people travel here. In addition to that, the US exchanges intel with European agencies that are a bit out of our reach. Trump may not be happy about Christopher Steele and his dossier, but British Intelligence is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to collecting data overseas.
Yeah... with all the different types of people around the world we let in it's no wonder we spy on ourselves a lot. That and the numerous intelligence agencies we have.
There used to be the days where the CIA would actually go out into the world and do stuff, but nowadays it's more common to find them hiding under their desks.
But I know many US liberals want America to lose and China to win because they have a philosophical belief in globalism where China is licensed as the manufacturing hub for the world. That is what central planning is and to me it is a mistake which enables bad behavior. For example China has a lot of toxic waste and one of their policies is to ship it out of the country by putting a little bit of it into every product. They can't do this as easily with competition.
In reality there is no such thing as a trade war because there is no such thing as a trade peace. Trade is just an economic action, which can be perceived as war. Liberals want war (sanctions) against Russia. Russia never put melamine in the milk. China is our enemy, not Russia. And unlike liberals I don't believe in war. I think we should just revoke all special status with China and go back to being neutral. To the media, that would be war because it is opposite what they want.
US has advantage over China in terms of trade because we import more than we export to China. They'll lose more later in the end as this drags out. EU, Canada, Mexico, India (not really an ally), and other allies on the other hand I am not so sure about as Trump is imposing tariffs on them as well and their retaliation will take affect on the first of July.
