Trey Gowdy disputes Trump's claim of Spygate

Can it be? Gowdy, a heretofore loyal toady of the President's and one of the congressional Republicans who attended the handover of documents concerning the FBI informant of the Trump campaign, has actually shown some spine and spoken out in opposition to Trumpie's claim that this person was in actuality a spy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — There is no evidence that the FBI planted a “spy” on President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, a senior House Republican said Wednesday, directly contradicting Trump’s repeated insistence that the agency inserted a “spy for political reasons and to help Crooked Hillary win.”

Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight Committee and a longtime Trump supporter, was briefed last week by the Justice Department and FBI following reports that investigators relied on a U.S. government informant in its investigation into Russian election meddling.

“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican, told Fox News on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Gowdy said he had “never heard the term ‘spy’ used” and did not see evidence of that.

“Informants are used all day, every day by law enforcement,” he told “CBS This Morning.”

Tempering this unusual burst of backbone, though, is the fact that Gowdy is giving up his seat and not running in November for reelection, which sort of spoils any claim of actual courage of standing up to the party line of his Republican colleagues.

I wonder what Devin "Quisling" Numbnuts thinks about this?

reply

Gowdy has shown a little bit of principle throughout all of this. Months ago he castigated John Dowd by publicly reprimanding him "If your client is innocent, act like it" in an indirect shot at Hair Furor.

Still doesn't excuse his role allowing Nunes to whitewash the House Intel committee investigation by refusing to call witnesses that could bury Hair Furor.

But it's something. I'll take whatever I can get out of this unprincipled lot.

reply

Does it matter? between Gowdy, Trump, Guliani, Sanders, Conway, Sessions....this group of "leaders" couldn't keep a story straight if it was "The Little Engine That Could"....

reply

It actually does kind of matter with Gowdy, since he sits as 2nd in command on the intel committee next to Nunes.

Nunes will find it harder to maneuver and continue his full frontal attack on FBI credibility now that Gowdy has thrown his solidarity behind the FBI with what they both learned after Nunes forced Rosenstein and Wray to give them a classified briefing.

reply

Nunes only cares about what his man-crush thinks about him.

reply

I think there's good reason to believe Nunes is dirty because he was part of the transition team that we're now aware Flynn had unlawfully been engaged in dialog with Russia over sanctions relief while keeping the team clued in before Hair Furor had been sworn in as president. He also appeared to be personally involved in helping Flynn obstruct the FBI investigation into him after Flynn went to him for help.

Nunes acts openly and outwardly corrupt in his attempts to scuttle the Mueller probe as if he knows his ass is on the line too because his hands are dirty.

reply

Guess he’s disputing the former head of the CIA who ordered the spies and confirmed their existence.

It’s fine though. Can’t wait for Trump to continue the demokkkrat tradition and order “informanants” placed in demokkkrat only campaigns to help prevent the reaccurance of demokkkrat/Russia collusion.

He won’t even need to order it. Just suggest it in a tweet and the demokkkrat media and their lemmings will once again be exposed for ignorance and hypocracy.

Cool story, bro.

Clapper answered. "They were spying on, a term I don't particularly like, but on what the Russians were doing. Trying to understand were the Russians infiltrating, trying to gain access, trying to gain leverage or influence which is what they do."

Funny they didn’t feel the need to tell Trump or have insiders in the Hillary camp. But it wasn’t spying. Lmao!!!!

Or perhaps your demokkkrat lemming skull requires video.

Sorry bro, back to your cnn. Didn’t mean to confuse you with reality bro.

reply

For the upteenth time dipshit, there was no probable cause to have insiders in the Hillary camp. She wasn't the one hiring sketchy operatives with shady histories with the Kremlin to manage her campaign or as foreign policy advisers like Trump.

And why were they obligated to tell Trump anything fuckwad?

reply

Gd, I noticed you avoiding quoting the TWO times where Clapper says that the campaign was not spied on.

The surveillance was in regard to what the Russians were doing. According to your logic here, it's "bigger than Watergate" to keep an eye on Russian operatives, because you'll say anything to defend Dear Leader.

So, in defending Donald Trumpler here, you're actually defending the Russians.

Good job! America First, right? LOL

reply

From reading other posts that Zagnut Gd has made, he seems to have a knack for avoiding quite a lot of things: facts...the truth...sanity. I'm not even going to waste my time debating with these fruitloops anymore, but I will bait them with certain responses just to watch them go off the rails and see what crazy rejoinders they post.

reply

Well it's hard to take Gd seriously, especially after it said that all media outlets it sees as "liberal" should be "eradicated."

reply

Fake news CNN Crapper? Seriously!

reply

Testify, Gd, testify!!!

reply

This is from Gd's link where the author is saying that Clapper is admitting to spying on the campaign, and then the author immediately quotes Clapper disputing it.

This is what Gd WON'T quote from his link, because it doesn't back up his narrative:

"With the informant business, well, the point here is the Russians," Clapper said. "Not spying on the campaign but what are the Russians doing?

"But the FBI started to look into Trump's ties to Russia in the summer of 2016. Trump tweeted that this spring -- this spying, rather, this spying that he claims is spying, other people say it's a whistleblower or informant. He says it's spying, it's bigger than Watergate. So I ask you, was the FBI spying on Trump's campaign?" Co-host Joy Behar asked.

"No, they were not," Clapper answered.

Culburn, I thought "testify" is supposed to imply being honest, so I figured I'd check on the link he provided.

reply

Clapper has lied under oath.

reply

So why didn't the real KKK support Clinton then?
