More Suspicious Activity Reports about Cohen missing from Treasury Dept database

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/05/reports-on-suspicious-michael-cohen-transactions-are-missing.html

Turns out the leak last week by Michael Avenatti of the SAR report on Michael Cohen's shady LLC company and the shady deposits made to him/it was only the tip of the iceberg as now the source of the leak has revealed that that report was only 1 of 3 SARS that existed concerning that company. "Existed," past tense, because now it seems the other 2 reports have mysteriously disappeared from the FINCIN database where supposedly no data should ever be removed.

It’s highly unusual for a suspicious-activity report to be removed from the FINCEN database, which is why the source was so alarmed. “I have never seen something pulled off the system,” they said. “That system is a safeguard for the bank. It’s a stockpile of information. When something’s not there that should be, I immediately became concerned.”

These other 2 reports are said to contain information about further deposits to Essential Consulting LLC (Cohen's shady company) that are supposed to amount to a figure of about 3 million dollars.

The real question here is whether these records were removed by the Justice Department and/or Mueller's team because of the sensitive information they contained (which is possible, and legal, according to the fine print about the db), or were removed by another party without authorization or permission.

As the New Yorker points out, there are many legitimate reasons why a SAR could be restricted. The story is therefore a nothing-burger.

OTOH, leaking confidential bank records is a crime. The guilty party will almost certainly be tracked down. Mueller better hope it wasn't a member of his team.

reply

Yes, the leak of the report was a crime, but if it turns out the removal of the records was done without proper authorization, it will be considered a justifiable crime. And it's ludicrous to suggest the leaker was a member of Mueller's team because a) his people do not leak, and b) they've no doubt had this information for months now already, so for them the reports aren't "missing."

It's far from being nothing, but when you have nothing between your ears I suppose everything seems that way to you.

reply

I guess it never occurred to you that the leaker may be lying about his background/motivations in an attempt to throw off investigators. Those records are monitored 24/7. Investigators almost certainly have a list of everyone who accessed them and are going through it as we speak.

reply

The leaker could be lying about his motivations, but why would he? His identity will eventually be uncovered, either through self-admittance or from an investigation, so to lie about why he released the info would only compound his trouble.

And besides, the largest group of liars in this vast cauldron of scandals are the people who are trying to keep information from being released, not the ones exposing it.

reply

You're assuming that he knows he will be uncovered, and that he doesn't think he can guide investigators in the wrong direction. For that matter, you're assuming this person is the actual leaker and not someone trying to protect him by creating a diversion. I think it goes without saying that this person is utterly untrustworthy.

reply

ROTFL!

'Guide investigators in the wrong direction'. "someone trying to protect him by creating a diversion"

This is some hilarious conspiratorial shit Alex Jones! You are one unhinged maniac.

So maybe you could explain the motivation of exactly WHY someone would sacrifice themselves for the true leaker?

This is truly the bizarro world you live in. You really suggested Mueller is behind this? LOOOL! You're acting like Mueller is running a clandestine blackops outfit instead of a team of experienced federal prosecutors and investigators who know their very survival and legitimacy depends on playing by the book to the letter.

reply

310 is a funny guy, isn't he? I was baiting him by actually trying to have a reasonable discussion with him just to see how far off the path of sanity he'd stray...and he didn't disappoint!

reply

Absolutely LOONY TUNES!

What really stands out is the sheer desperation to maintain this illusion that Trump is innocent because Republican Bob Mueller is somehow corrupt. So he has to commit himself to reaching for this obscenely absurd flight of conspiratorial fantasy.

It really is breathtaking.

reply

Probably Mueller's team. They have been looking at Cohen's dealings.

reply

It's possible but does it even make sense that they'd protect the first two of Cohen's SARs and not the 3rd? That's the biggest mystery.

reply

I think he probably kept the info on Hillary's private server, but that shouldn't be a problem because she was subpoenaed to hand the files over, so I'm sure she still has them. I mean, who would ever delete something right after you got a subpoena, right?!
