Why is it "cream"? Oh, and it cost more and it didn't help, still burnt my mouth on the searing hot coffee.
Half-and-half is popular in coffee as it's half milk and half light cream (about 15% butterfat). Using just milk (especially 2%, 1%, skim) can give coffee a more bitter taste and a darker color than cream.
Nit sure why you were charged more - never heard of that in a restaurant.
