T-rump's HUD secretary Ben Carson doesn't care about ethics
Despite warnings by HUD General Counsel Linda Cruciani of a severe conflict in his position, T-rump appointed HUD secretary Ben Carson decided to have his son Ben Carson Jr, a prominent Baltimore business man handle the invitation list to a government event.
Last summer, Carson (who has lived in Baltimore for more than thirty years), asked to have a "HUD listening tour" of the city. He asked his son Ben Jr to set up the 'guest list' despite the risk of violating federal ethics rules, according to internal documents and people familiar with the matter.
According to documents obtained under FOIA, Cruciani and her colleagues had multiple conversations and emails with Carson, his son, and other senior HUD officials urging Carson Jr. not be involved in the listening tour, an event intended to give the secretary a chance to see federally supported housing projects firsthand and to convey his policy vision to the public.
Carson ignored Cruciani's warnings and let Carson Jr invite some of his biggest contacts in Baltimore, which made it look like the government event was benefiting the son of the HUD secretary.
The real shocker: Ben Jr. acknowledges that his business is deeply intertwined with HUD, and potential clients would certainly be impressed if they thought his company could put in the occasional good word with the secretary when they had HUD business.
What does the White House and Republicans say about this? Mmmmm - Nothing. Nothing at all.
Anyone else tired of all this winning?
