God Bless Danny Thomas

As a little boy, I loved him in the TV show, Make Room for Daddy. It was the 60s and we were inundated with sitcoms showing idealized families. But this man was more than funny, and so was his daughter, Marlo (That Girl). He put his money where his mouth is and created St. Jude’s Hospital for children with cancer. St. Jude’s has not only saved thousands of young lives, it is also engaged in ongoing research to learn how we can save even more lives. St. Jude’s provides complete travel and housing accommodations for all families of their patients at ZERO cost. We desperately need 1, 2, MANY Danny Thomases.

Damn, this is the first post on his board. I wonder why MovieChat didn't import everything?

I always use Danny Thomas and his daughter Marlo Thomas as examples of Arab-Americans and how they have been an integral part of American culture for decades.

> One of 10 children, Danny Thomas was born Amos Muzyad Yaqoob Kairouz (Arabic: أموس مزيد يعقوب قيروز) on January 6, 1912, in Deerfield, Michigan, to Charles Yaqoob Kairouz and his wife Margaret Taouk.[3] His parents were Maronite Catholic immigrants from Bsharri, Lebanon.[4]

If they were still in Lebanon they'd probably be dead thanks to radical Islamists Hezbollah who took over and wrecked the country.

reply

Lebanon has always been a diverse country when it comes to religion.

But be fair, if the United Nations and the United States hadn't decided to create an artificial Jewish state in the region, there would be no Hezbollah. As usual, U.S. imperialism wreaks havoc allover the world.

reply

it was the United Nations.

reply

What disgusting bull puckey.

reply

The British created the shitshow we now know as the middle-east. The Brits also enabled the scumbag Oilagarchy Sauds whose security is subsidized by American tax $$. You'll never hear Republicans rally to end funding them either but they'll campaign on banning dirt poor Palestinians.

reply

Great point. I should have the said the United Nations, the United States and the United Kingdom created an artificial religious state in the region. Yup, the U.S. sponsors despots allover the globe.

reply

Marlo Thomas is a racist.

reply

Nah, she wrote some anti-racist book for kids.

reply

Why do you say that?

reply

Because him lonely. Him SO lonely. Nobody like him. Him need some bitty attention.

Or it could be because he is a hateful asshole with no social skills and a self-loathing intelligence.

Onan, I had no firm idea of the Thomas’ families ethnic background—other than knowing, as a little boy, they were Lebanese—nor had I any idea of you using them as a good example. I am most gratified if my small posts helps people to think beyond the tip of their collective nose.

I recall that Danny Thomas said that his Jewish friends praised him for being able to speak “the TRUE Yiddish.”

There has been a time in my life when I needed extensive physical therapy. Boston, my hometown, has extensive medical options. I went to Spalding Rehab Center for help. While there, I had the blessing of meeting Spalding’s chaplain, Sisters Mary. She oversaw the patients in Spalding’s pediatric oncology ward. When we met, she had been doing that for EIGHTEEN YEARS. Pediatric oncology has to be the most heart-rending medical endeavor there is, as I know St. Jude’s demonstrates, while simultaneously giving us hope. It takes a very special and TRULY STRONG spirit to continue her ministry of hope and courage. I know that God blesses Sister Mary and all other Sisters Mary. I thought you would like to know that we have them in our world.

The story I heard was that when Thomas was starting out in show business he was having a lot of trouble catching a break. He was getting desperate and was ready to quit. He prayed to St Jude and said that if he was able to make it in show business he'd decide his life to doing good in St Jude's name.

Be got his break and lived up to his promise. Much respect to him.
