She was excellent from Speak (2004).

Speak premiered on Showtime & Lifetime back in 2005.
Kristen, who was 13 when it was filmed, portrays a high school girl who gets raped at a party.
The trauma of the event causes her to almost stop talking.
Kristen gave an excellent performance, and it was the film that turned me into a fan.

Two years later I would see The Cake Eaters at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
In it, Kristen portrays a girl suffering from neuromuscular disease, which, in the future, will eventually become fatal.
During the short span of the film, Kristen's character wants to experience what it is like to make love before the disease progresses to the point where she will be unable to do so. The film was so well received at that film festival that it won the 'Audience Award for Best American Indie.'
The Cake Eaters contains what I still think is her best performance to date despite the fact that she won the Cesar Award for Best Supporting Actress in Clouds of Sils Maria. The Cesar in the French equivalent of an Oscar.

Other films where Kristen shows her acting chops are, Into the Wild, The Yellow Handkerchief, Adventureland, Welcome To the Rileys, The Runaways, On the Road, Still Alice, Certain Women and Personal Shopper.

If all you are doing is judging Kristen's acting ability by those dreadful Twilight films, then you are doing her and yourself a disservice. So if you get a chance, please check out the films I mentioned, particularly Speak and The Cake Eaters. They just might change your opinion of her.

Kristen has had many roles where she did an excellent job and received recognition or awards for her work. She's received awards from film festivals, often for smaller or Independent films which may not get a large exposure.

I first saw her in Panic Room with Jodie Foster. She was just about twelve but she did such a great job in a gritty role that I was impressed. Then in Speak, The Cake Eaters and other films she's done a good job and I became a fan.

The Twilight films while not the deepest characters and story line still had a huge audience with a huge box office. As a main character Kristen did a good job to help portray the series as faithful to the books and to fans as possible. Fans of the books and movie series loved her and many of the other characters. So whatever the artistic limitations were, still the series did a great job with fans.

she is a very good actress. the twilight movies don’t do her talent justice

Right there with you. I can't watch her in anything, she's boring and emotionless. I was told to watch Underwater because some people have said she's good in it but I have not done so yet.

reply

Liked her in The Cake Eaters.

I uploaded a music video containing some of my fave clips of Kristen in The Cake Eaters to my YouTube channel in case your interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xrh_9mmFgM

Here's another example, this one a music video of Kristen from Happiest Season which I purposely did not include any of her dialogue whatsoever to illustrate how she is able to convey a wide spectrum of emotion just by her facial expressions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zdat_qTszA

Are you supposed to be the thought police?

I see you deleted some of the weirder shit.

Nice.

Honestly, when I watch that video you posted I just see more of the same bland, boring Kristen. She rarely changes in any movie she's in. She's the same in all of them. At least to me.

reply

Please give us an example of a dramatic actress around Kristen's age who meets your criteria of one who isn't bland, boring or the same in all their movies.

reply

Margot Robbie.

Her popularity is due to her not being the typical bimbo actress who chooses lightweight roles. Granted, Twilight is weak but it wasn't fluffy in a Mean Girls or Easy A kind of way.
