If you liked Kristen in Still Alice, you'll probably love her in Clouds of Sils Maria, where she upstaged Oscar-winning French actress Juliette Binoche. Speaking of accolades, I believe this is the reason why the critics recognized Kristen by awarding her with some of the most prestigious film critics awards in the industry for her performance in COSM: New York Film Critics Circle - 1st place, Los Angeles Film Critics Association - 2nd Place, National Society of Film Critics - 1st place, and Boston Society of Film Critics 1st place, just to mention a few. Normally, winning such awards, especially the NYFCC award, was a precursor to being nominated for an Oscar.
And Kristen didn't resort to an over-the-top, outlandish, flamboyant, hammed up, overly exaggerated character acting performance, which some moviegoers misconstrue as good acting--of course such acting has a place in screwball comedies but not so much in dramas, where Kristen acts in a manner in which good method actors of the past have done, by a natural, low-key, subtle and nuanced performance which made her an instant icon among the French, who awarded her with a Best Supporting Actress Cesar at the 40th Cesar Awards, Frances equivalent to the Academy Awards. Yes, Kristen became the first American actress to have ever won a Cesar. Kristen again won over the hearts of the French with another noteworthy performance in Personal Shopper along with her titular role in the political thriller drama Seberg, a film based on the life of French actress Jean Seberg.
Lastly, as some of her fans, such as Carved, Ron and myself, will attest to, many of her best roles came when she was still a teenager: The Cake Eaters, Into the Wild, Adventureland, The Yellow Handkerchief, and Speak. Heck, one of her best performances to date came as a preteen in the thriller Panic Room.
