Sorry I know this occurred like a year ago, but I'm just confirming if that's actually the real reason she left?
I know she must be jealous and what not, but leaving the show isn't the answer. They could've just found a way to permanently end Damon and Elena's relationship for good.
Then Nina could end up with either Stefan of Tyler or something.
I believe that that's definitely some of it but she started doing other things, mostly minor roles in movies, so she probably felt it was time to not be Elena/Katherine/Amara/whoever else.

I don't think she's jealous since I'm pretty sure she ended the relationship. If anything, it was awkward having to work so intimately with an ex. It wouldn't have made sense for her to go back to Stefan the way the storyline was going, and she and Tyler had no romantic feelings, not to mention Michael also left the show at the end of the same season.

shareNO NO NO!!!! Nina is WAY too professional for that! She was leaving long before they got married! And why should she be jealous? She and Ian have been over for a long time before he even got with Nikki! If she was uncomfortable working with him as a love interest, hence like Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray on One Tree Hill were, they would have ended Delena a long time ago like One Tree Hill did Brooke and Lucas.

It was smart of her to leave if she wanted to move forward. I think she left coz her contract was up and if she signed another one she would be stuck. It was her way out. The show was declining anyway so good for her. I doubt Ian and Nikki had anything to do with it. I think it's the fans that wants to believe that.
share I believe Nina was the one who ended it because Ian wanted to get married/have kids etc. Nina was 21/22 when they first got together. My guess is she matured/changed/wanted to be young and crazy before settling down.
The only possible awkward thing about Ian and Nikki (from Nina's perspective) is that Nina and Nikki used to be good friends.
Even if I broke up with a guy, I'd be a little irritated if one of my friends started dating my ex...especially right after we broke up.
All of this is conjecture. We don't know what they actually felt/what went down. Ian seems super happy which is great! I'm sure Nina wishes him well. It sucks that she isn't on the show anymore. Hopefully she'll come back...at least for a cameo before it's over.
