What do the Jussie Smollet "defenders" have to be embarrassed about, they thought, based on information and a letter Smollett provided, that he was a victim of a hate crime committed by a Trump supporter, and they sought justice for him in the world of public opinion, and both Republican and Democratic legislators sought justice for all victims of lynchings by passing legislation making lynching a federal crime. They also heavily criticized him for the hoax he perpetuated after he was charged with filing a false police report, pointing out that his actions undermined real victims of hate crimes, the legitimacy of hate crimes, and the general reportage of hate crimes, and triggered racist and homophobic blowback. They stand on the right side of this case. The "anti-Smollett" people are the people on the wrong side, hammering all your racism and homophobia and hatred and pejoratives not only onto this person but as many other people as you can, making you internet embarrassments, "stupid gimps", and snowflakes. You and your ilk stand on the wrong side.
They believed that a successful man would have to go out in the middle of the night in single digit Chicago weather to grab a sandwich because he didn't have sandwich makings at home and the cravings were too great to keep him inside where it was warm. They believed that a man who'd been in a fight with TWO men would only have a tiny scratch on his face and his Subway sandwich would be in pristine condition. They believed that a man who'd had a noose put around his neck would walk into a hospital with the noose still around his neck rather than ripping the hated thing off ASAP. Of course, priorities being what they are, he needed to keep that sandwich in pristine condition.
People believed it because they wanted to believe it so bad it hurt. That's the reason why they didn't laugh him off the planet when they first heard the crazy story.

There is a vastly greater percentage of extremists on the left than the right. This is a new phenomenon, and I think that explains the vehement certainty that the left is projecting today. I truly think they aren't used to being that way. The far right is practically a fringe group. Religious zealots aren't taken seriously and their numbers are falling. Most modern conservatives are very moderate. It certainly wasn't that way 20 years ago, but the sickle has always swung side to side. Right now it's on the left.
