He is the exact reason why you don't immediately take a side.

During the Kavanaugh hearings, people took Christine Blasey Ford's side immediately. During the MAGA hat wearing kid staring at the native American fiasco, people took the side of the Native American immediately. Now with this, people immediately took the side of Jussie Smollet.

This is why I never take a side right away and wait for more information to come. I don't like taking the side of someone who says they were a victim at first glance. It's always best (and most logical) to wait for the investigations. I don't understand why people put themselves in the position to possibly be wrong in the future.

I hope all of those celebrities who called for "Justice for Jussie" get called out and are forced to apologize.

Because of social media, everyone thinks they need to put their hot take online as quickly as possible.

The “believe the victim” argument gives them that justification.

In reality, you can’t simply believe the victim without knowing the details of the case.

Exactly. People think they're doing a service to the world by immediately calling out racism, sexism, homophobia and so on, without realizing the negativity that can be caused. Like you said, the "believe the victim" argument gives them the justification. But the thing is, by immediately taking a side of one and not the other, if they're wrong, they're indirectly not believing the victim. For example, if a woman comes out and says "I was raped by John", people will take her side. But if it's proven that she lied, John is now the victim of a hoax and people brush it under the rug like "yeah, but so many women do get raped. That doesn't change the argument." Actually, it does.

I totally agree.

Don't take a side until you know all, or at least most, of the facts.

Unfortunately, too many people, on all sides of the political spectrum, are far more interested in upholding their narrative than they are with facts and truth, and are so biased against anyone who remotely disagrees with them, that they can't help but assume that everyone who shares their beliefs are good/everyone who disagrees with their beliefs are bad.

That said, I think the jury is still out with respect to Christine Blasey Ford. It's still unclear what the truth is, and I suspect we'll never know, but I think there is still good reason to believe, on a balance of evidence, that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her all those years ago, but nowhere near enough to establish any sort of guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

I actually believe Christine Blasey Ford. But seeing how Kavanaugh pretty much was still appointed, I guess at some point I just have to accept that the evidence against him just isn't there.
