I will always give him a chance.....

He has made a lot of crap over the past few years, but we have all seen what he is capable of. Who knows in 15 years time he could have made a whole bunch of critically acclaimed movies, maybe even get a few oscars under his belt. Never say never

Peace, Bitch!

You're missing out. He has already made brilliant movies. Every single one of them. Like the oscars matter. An independent-thinking person should never follow what the oscars or critics tell us what to watch or not. Some excellent movies don't get the respect they deserve, and Night's one of them.

Always been true. For my tastes he's only made one clunker. I just watched "Unbreakable" for the fifth time, a movie I really didn't care for when I first saw it in a theater. Now it's one of my favorite films. Sometimes your feelings about a given movie change over time and some performers and directors bring along a style or make choices that are unusual enough that their audiences have to get used to them. Happens in music and art too.

I just wish Shymalan was more prolific. In a world where the Adam Sandlers and Tyler Perrys keep cranking out junk on an almost annual basis I wish I didn't have to wait so long to see what people like Shymalan do next.

That's an EXCELLENT point there. Some audiences are simply not used to unusually unique directors that are providing new, original, fresh things to the table. In a world where most films coming out of Hollywood are so similar in formulaic structure, some people could get thrown off by something too distinguished during summer movie season like After Earth.

However, there are audiences out there (educated) who are adaptable to the art, progress, and innovation of filmmaking.

The happening, after earth, and last airbender are brilliant?

Sometimes you just gotta sit down and endure the bullsh**
