Well that's just your opinion - and to be honest, I think that's a rather sad and pathetic way of looking at it: I don't see why you have to be so gleeful about it. You can still be a good actor and have a faith/spirituality of some kind. Although...that being said, I'm kinda with you, as I can't warm to actors who are Born Again/Evangelical Xns...

Well I love that he is brave enough to speak out on being atheist. Too often people in the public eye play lip service to 'christianity' simply to be seen as acceptable.

amen to that...

Why do people really care what other peoples religious affiliations are? If he's a buddhist, muslim, catholic, atheist, voodoo, baptist I couldn't care less.

This particular sub-thread is about caring if someone is PRETENDING to be religious for public image.

Your response is asinine. It's OK for christians to be gleeful and try and convert every Tom, Dick, and Harry to that religion, yet you think it's pathetic for anyone else to be gleeful.

I'm disgusted with the current state of affairs in this country, where you have people, especially Republicans, espousing christianity, yet in every way and in all that they would like to do, they are no more 'christian' than Bolshevik soldiers, or worse, Nazis. These Fake-christians in the Republican party don't give a crap about their fellow man, nor do they want the share anything with those who cannot help themselves during these tough times. And worse yet, and taking a page from Nazi propagandists, they blame things on the poor. I despise everything coming out of the Republican party this year, especially the clowns that they have running, and the scum bags who applaud executions and people to be left dying just because they cannot get health insurance.

So, even with your tacit "I'm kinda with you," it must be said that my best friends, and some of the smartest and most interesting and moral people I know and associate with, are atheists. Christian Republicans these days seem to be devoid of morality, proving that you don't need a god to be moral...in fact it may be what you rally around to pronounce your immorality. As for me, I understand that we have absolutely no idea of there is or isn't a god. But the one christians have made for themselves, is one who doesn't care to show up, and is incredibly insecure, requiring this great god of the universe to have us tiny ants keep telling him/her/it how great he/she/it is.

Right now, some 20-30% of this once great nation is certifiably psychotic.

Maniac-9,

Tell that to the Republicans who are pushing christianity onto the American public as a prerequisite for being President. As if that's in the Constitution...They disgust me to the core. As Thomas Jefferson wrote in a treaty, this is in no way a christian nation. It just happens to be a nation with many christians. The founding fathers would throw-up if they had to see what goes on with these ridiculous Republicans. Santorum, of course, is the worst. But Gingrich is right up there, too. And how would anyone know what Romney thinks about anything? I'm always fascinated when people have such certainty about the biggest thing in their lives which is based on no proof. My 'belief' is that blue is the best color. There's no proof of that, either. They are certain that their religion has it right, exactly like those in other, completely different religions feel about their religion. It's just what Republican campaigns use to make others running seem like 'not us.' They use it on Obama all the time. It's despicable. But then that's the stock in trade of the Republican party.
