shareDoing voice acting is different for motion capture. Motion capture is all about acting so don't even compare the two.
shareThe acting elements are not supplied solely by Andy Serkis. The chimp on the screen is not Andy Serkis and those are not Andy Serkis's eyes. It is difficult to assign all the praise to one individual when it is a collaborative affair. I can't help thinking that the computer designers could make a mediocre acting performance look good easier than a terrific performance by an actor could make mediocre computer effects look good.
shareThank you ! Even Rick Baker used his own eyes for Kong in '76.

He should perhaps have been nominated for The Two Towers but I don’t think any of his subsequent work has been so notable.
Admittedly I haven’t seen his performance as Ian Drury which apparently is quite good and, if it had come in a more popular film, could have been Oscar catnip.
