What did the British TV viewers exactly liked about him?!!

I watched clips of his stuff and even if I did not know he was a pedophile, I would still find him arrogant and horrible. He had that real "Fake nice guy vibe" about him. I wonder what did people find in him for making him such a success in British TV..

Not British but back then it was really different. TV personalities didn't have to be good looking or even smooth/personable. They just had to be able to get the big guests on their shows. Everything was kind of awkward back then too, look at the old bands and videos.

Gary Glitter, Rolf Harris, two other personalities of the time who also ended up on sex related charges. If you watched them back then even without knowing what they were up to, you would still wonder how they became so popular.

He fixed it and made dreams come true! We all wanted one of those badges.

Viewers always thought he was a wrong'un. BBC execs liked him cos they thought he had a nice knob. They love knobs at the beeb.

Funny thing is I don't think many people did like him - I didn't. But he was very successful as a Radio Disc Jockey, TV Presenter and doer of good deeds. Because of this he was courted by politicians and people of influence and was obviously very clever at manipulating people.
Lots of stories and anecdotes have emerged of suspicions about him but only after the story has broken.

he was one of the few so-called celebs that took public transport, he was seen as one of the boys, he fooled most people.

As a Brit I'm embarrassed that the wider world knows we celebrated this cnut. Impossible to explain his popularity. I can only imagine he was given a pass/career because he knew about the dark deeds of others in positions of power - whether that was just the BBC (obvious), government or aristocracy I couldn't say, but he was in a position to know a lot of information on a lot of influential people, otherwise why would this stuff only come out after he couldn't talk.
And as a Brit, yeah we all thought he was creepy as fcuk.

JS's success mainly shows how desperate the BBC have always been to try and stay "relevant" to anyone under the age of 40
