Excellent English. Many of his projects have been in English, both film and theater. For example, this year's The White Countess and the upcoming Sunshine movie and older films like East Meets West.
Here's an interview example -- go to Yahoo Video, type in his name and you will find an interview done back in late April (about The Promise). Also, if you can get your hands on a DVD (U.S. release) of Twilight Samurai, there is a very nice question and answer segment in the extras section. Additionally, there are a couple of UCLA International Institute interviews with Sanada-san that you can find by doing a web search.
