All About Our House

I watched this delightful film and was not aware that Sanada-san was in it. Even though it was a cameo role as a bartender, he was as captivating as ever, and did a marvelous job mixing drinks to the point of perfection. No matter what role he is in, big or small, he owns it!

Well, what I pleasant surprise you had then. I knew his role was a small one when I rented the movie. But as you say, all his performances are worthy of attention.

I've always wondered if he was sending a personal message - he is well-known for his dedication and perfectionist attitude in all his performances. And, he always seems to have some purpose for taking a role.

So, was he poking a bit of fun at his own excesses or saying that perfection is essential.

If you remember the architect watching the mixing, it seemed to "hit home" to him that perhaps he should back off a bit/relax his own attitude towards the building project.

What do you think?

Karasawa the interior designer/architect definitely had an epiphany after the bartending scene. He did seem to have a change of heart and let things take their course without too much friction.

I'd have to say it appears that perfection is essential for Sanada-san. It seems to stem from his trip to Britain where he worked with the Shakespearean actors. He had left behind a bit of a scandal in Japan, stemming from his brief fling with Riona Hazuki who is 15 years his junior and I guess he received a lot of grief over that.

Since that point, he has taken on an even higher level of both professionalism and perfectionism. Maybe it's his way of making amends? Once again, this is total speculation on my part, and nothing carved in stone.

Regardless of any theories, he remains one of the finest actors in the world.
