Thanks, Tom, for the information!

As a long-time fan, it would never occur to me that Hiro will take on this project since it's such a departure from the types of films he's been involved with in recent years -- Oscar-nominated The Twilight Samurai, The Last Samurai, Chen Kaige's The Promise, Merchant-Ivory's The White Countess, and Danny Boyle's Sunshine which is slated to be released in March 2007. On the other hand, it'll be great to see Japan's top action star go up against Jackie Chan and the opportunity to see Hiro in three different films in wildly different genres next year (Rush Hour 3, Sunshine, and James Ivory's The City of Your Final Destination).

Here's another article about Hiro's casting:

I'm surprised by the role as well. But I guess its a lesson to be learned by Sanada-san fans, don't ever be surprised by what the man does. Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

And what a ride we will have in 2007 - its incredibly exciting.

More photos of Sanada on set and a bit more info on the auto accident. You may need to do a cut and paste. But its worth the effort!

Did he do his own stunts? 'Cause if he didn't, his stunt double must be a clone or something.

Well, hell then. I guess I need my pants.

Did he do his own stunts? Yes, Hiro always does all of his stunts. He never uses a stunt double, ever.

Here's a good compilation of Hiro's memorable action scenes over the course of his long career --

BTW, Hiro is doing the singing (they're the theme songs from the films he's starred in) -- he was a top pop idol as well as THE top action star in Japan in the '80s.
