John Rain

Is anyone here a fan of Barry Eisler’s John Rain novels? In an ideal world, Michael Mann would go to Tokyo to make a John Rain movie with Hiroyuki Sanada. I half wonder in Mr Eisler had Sanada-san in mind when he created the character of John Rain. The guy looks good in a suit and is believable as a highly trained martial arts killer.

I too am a big fan of the book series. Many attempts have been made over the years to make the film. Finally, in 2009, Max Manix directed Rain Fall in Japan.

Barry Eisler has a page on this site so you can read more about the film there, or join his fan site to see photos and such of Barry in Japan for the premiere.
I highly recommend his fan forum for anyone who loves the Rain series. He enjoys interacting with his fans and responds on a regular basis.

Because I did join in on discussions of the movie and shared my thoughts on casting Hiroyuki Sanada as the lead, I received an email from Mr. Eisler in which he described meeting Hiro several years ago in Japan. I got the feeling that Barry believed Hiro would be an excellent John Rain!
