Why did she name herself after the Marquis de Sade?

This has always bothered me. That's not her birth name. She chose it as a stage name.

Did she not know about the Marquis de Sade? Or is that her game?

reply

Her name is Helen Folasade Adu. Sade (pronounced Shar-ay) was a nick name.

reply

Does she not now about the Marquis de Sade and his rep?

reply

her name and her choice respect Asshole The Barbarian

reply

Huh? Why are you attacking me?

Her name is the same as one of the most evil men in history. If her name was Hitler she would never have used that as a stage name. I think he was just ignorant and unaware of the Marquis de Sade. But to me the name is as offensive as if she called herself "Hitler".

Here's a description of de Sade's work since you seem to be unfamiliar:

Another passage describes a pregnant woman tied to a wheel, ready to be beaten, and her mother forced to sit beneath the wheel, mouth open, to eat anything that flows from the body of the beaten woman, be it blood, urine, feces, or a miscarried fetus. In another tableau, women have their babies taken away, and if they cannot pick them out of a group of newborns, the children are sliced up with a sword. This is after the women have their newborns tied around their necks by the umbilical cord and are left without food for days, to see whether they will eat their own children to survive.

reply

That doesn't have anything to do with the singer Sade. πŸ˜Žβ€‹

reply

Then why name herself after it? She's either incredibly stupid or she's a Satanist.

reply

You just want to provoke.
This time again in an idiotic way, Onani.

reply

Hahaha. It makes for a good convo. But honestly, I have wondered for years why she would choose such a name. Her name popped up so I posted about it!

Much of it is the ignorance of the general population that they're so illiterate they're not familiar with de Sade.

But if you're unfortunate enough to have the name of one of the most evil men in history - Hitler, Stalin, Mengele (there are people who have those surnames) - you change it. You don't choose it as a stage name.

As I said, she's either very ignorant or very evil. And the ignorance of the masses doesn't help.

reply

The "ignorance" of my parents didn't help me too with my first name.
My Frisian first name makes a good rhyme to many bad things.
Then again it made me strong to chase bad 'rhymers' across the school yard.
Seems, you also need to feel that strength. πŸ€˜πŸ½β€‹

reply

Sade didn't name herself after the Marquis. You didn't get the answer you wanted, so you ignore it.

reply

What answer do you think I wanted? That she purposely named herself after the world's most famous sexual pervert, rapist and child molester?

I obviously know that was not her intent. But she is named de Sade nonetheless.

If she had named herself "Hitler" and then her PR people explained that she was named after a great great grandfather, not the Nazi, would that make the name choice any better?

Sorry, it's a horrible choice for a stage name and I cringe every time I see it. That's my answer as to why I posted this thread.

Helen Folasade Adu was born on 16 January 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Her middle name, Folasade, means "crowned with wealth" in Yoruba.
Her parents are Adebisi Adu, a Nigerian lecturer in economics of Yoruba background,
and Anne Hayes, an English district nurse...

reply

Her stage name is "Sade" not "Folasade".

Have you read the Marquis de Sade?

reply

Yes, I did...and we even discussed it in another context. ☻

reply

Her stagename has nothing to do with Marquis de Sade. It is an abbreviation of her middlename Folasade. Are you being deliberately dense?

reply

Fine, you're able to read and copy-and-paste. πŸ¦œβ€‹

reply

What if her last name was Hitler? Sorry, bad choice for a name. It's creepy.

reply

If her last name was Hitler, her song titles would be 'Brutal Operator ' or 'There is no ordinary Reich!'.

I JUST ASSUMED HER PARENTS MISSPELLED SADIE.🫀

I think she's a dominatrix myself.

reply

That's not nice.

Ingenious input = overrunner. ☻

reply

Her name is pronounced "Shar-day", which is completely different from how the Marquis de Sade is pronounced. Point being it's part of her middle name----Folasade---and has literally nothing to do with de Sade. You making a big assumption about her name only because it's spelled the same, but not pronounced the same, as de Sade.

reply

Yet it's spelled the same. It's irrelevant how she acquired it. She should know that a famous villain in history had left his mark on the name.

Sade wrote things like this:

A notorious sodomist, in order to combine that [offense] with those [...] [others], first inserts a Host in his [anus], then has himself embuggered by his own son, [forces himself on] his married daughter, and [terminates] his niece.

Seriously, what is wrong with this woman? She could have chosen any name.

reply

Said the one with the username "Onan". πŸ™„β€‹

I work with mentally ill people. It's unfortunate, but some of the strange obsessive behavior like this post that I see in these forums seem to be symptoms of mental illness. Keep in mind that you can't see who you are talking to. If you are wondering why they can't let something go that you can tell is obviously not correct, you might be talking to one of them. Why? Because a normal person doesn't give that much of a shit.

"I work with mentally ill people."

Means, you work with yourself...for Freedom! πŸ€˜πŸ½β€‹

From the name he's probably one of those "Sound of Freedom" QAnon weirdos.

reply

Or the OP is really desperate for human contact in any form, so sucking people into ridiculous arguments is a method. I got caught up.

reply

Uh, look at this board. This is the only thread where posters are actually talking about the artist Sade. I know what I'm doing here, dumbass. It's called generating conversation on the topic, even if one must use an oblique tactic to do so.🀣
