"Kiss my ass, you ignorant little jerks"

I have to say, I was sorely dissapointed in Mark for this:
http://markruffalo.tumblr.com/post/114661084940/my-response-to-the-i-am-not-a-feminist-internet

As a woman who doesnt identify with the feminist label, not because I dont believe in gender equality, or am ungratefull for some of the things feminism has done, but because Im also aware of the bad, crappy things its said and done as well, I find it rather ironic that a man that claims to respect women and their choices can shame, insult and belittle women because they choose to think for themselves and not adopt a label they are not comfortable with. I dont want this to turn into a feminist debate, but I will say this: perhaps the "youre either with us or against us" attitude, coupled with the aforementioned shaming tacticts used by feminists, including Mark, is what is keeping them away from that label?

And yes, I know Mark didnt actually write this, just reblogged it (from Tumblr, for gods sake, what is a grown ass man and celebrity doing on Tumblr?), but by doing so he IS condoning and backing up and agreeing with everything that the post said.

Its a pity this "nice guy" isnt a little bit more open minded.

For me, his sympathy with feminism (and willingness to declare it openly) only makes me like and respect him more! :-)

Regarding your point, I think there's two sides to the argument (quite apart from a debate on feminism itself, just about how points are being communicated). The "I don't need feminism" posts criticise the movement and are often disparaging about those who follow it too; not to mention, in the view of many feminists, misrepresent much of what it stands for. This post was a response to that: both sides are going to criticise the other, and question those who join it.

Personally, I think people should choose their own beliefs and labels. But this post isn't any more negative than the "I don't need feminism" posts were to start with.

When a grown ass famous man with influence does it, it looks far worse than some teenagers on tumblr.

He should have addressed their arguments in a more open minded way and tried to show the errors in their thoughts. But all he did was shame and insult young women for daring to think outside of the box (and for themselves), basically proving the point of the very same people he was criticizing.
Many women feel that modern feminism is no longer about equality. He should have tried to understand, if not necessarily agree, with the reasons behind that, and to see if perhaps his immaculate, perfect, untouchable Feminism may not be at least partially to blame.

I don't think he's under any obligation to put any blame on feminism if he doesn't personally agree it's at fault. He can reblog what he likes, just like the "I don't need feminism" people can say what they like. Both will antagonise some, but strike a chord with others. He's clearly just a guy with some strong beliefs, many of which I admittedly happen to agree with! :-)

I am not a feminist. The people posing as feminists today fully support Islam and ignore the treatment of women by the people who follow this ideology.

Mark took the words right out of my mouth. I say "bravo"!

As to the last poster here, that's a broad sweeping generalisation that you've made. All feminists support Islam? Not us atheist feminists. And I am sure there are MANY others who don't either.

I am a woman and I am not offended because my way of understanding this us some feminist are simply soryy for the language *beep* An example of this is the women oast and present on the view they make women look dumb half the the time the women on the the view and other shows don't know what they are even talking about. I personally think alot of women are stupid fighting to work full time with children has destroyed the family unit in America if a women wants to work full time with children then she should make enough money to have her husband stay home right! The feminist movement has put women back not forward. And alot of people feel this way alot of my female friends share this so I am not offended even if I really didn't agree with it I respect someone who has the balls to share how they really feel.also I think he is an fantastic actor

Seriously? He quoted something he thought was good, and it was. Not sure what this is about, or why get upset. When it comes down to it, this is the way it has been. Isn't more open minded?

His sympathy with feminism and to also state it openly, even if it's on tumblr or whatever, makes me like him even more. I say bravo! as well. Respect.

So, if American government decides to drone strike village full of children, we should just shut up and say nothing, because if we do, we're spitting on legacy of every WWII veteran who fought against Nazi? That's basically what he's saying.

Anyway, I cannot wait for a day when he'll say something even remotely "offensive" to feminists (because of his internalized misogyny of course!) and watch how all those lovely feminists he now supports proclaim him to be sexist and misogynist just like they did with his "dear old friend".

Oh and just so we remember... Feminism abolished slavery.
