The Road Not Taken...

I am a fan of Routh, he's a decent actor who's methods are a lot like the Meisner Techniques as done by actors of the 50's and 60's. He was an alright Superman by me, but what sucks is, I feel that if he had played Clark Kent in Smallville he would've wore the suit, embrassed it, and fought for the fans. He is a Superman fan and he was a better fit for that version of Superman, In my Honest Opinion, then Welling. Sometimes I just wish he could have switched with Welling so that Welling would've bombed in Returns while Routh would be on Smallville, fighting for the character to be Superman like the Smallville fans, me included, had wanted.

I am probably alone on this, some like him as an actor, some hate him. Personally I can see why to both, his style is more old fashioned, he gets into character on the set and goes moment to moment. I can see why people loved and hated his take on Superman. Personally I loved it, and his performance as Superman is only 1/3 of the reason why, the other is that he has kept the role in his heart and has inspired people by doing charity work and has kept a great public face, essentially he is a good person, like Superman.

You can see how the character has impacted him as a person. He has kept the role's spirit with him. So to have seen him carry the role of Clark Kent for 10 years then for the final 3 or at least final year of the series, well it could have really said something about him as an actor, DC in care of their production companies, and CW/Warner Bros. in their attempts to Honor the character.

Oh well... The Road not taken... What could've been will never be known... Maybe he can get a gig voicing Big Blue for a new Superman Animated Series... That would be worth something eh?
