the reboot will be very Dark and have a serious tone to it compared to the Christopher Reeves Superman and the one Bryan Singer made.

Superman Returns sucked BECAUSE it was "dark" and "serious", NOT because Brandon Routh played the part.
Zack Synder and his fanboys are completely tone deaf. The makers of Superman Returns slammed Superman III for being too light and breazy, so they decanonized it and decided specifically to make a "somber, serious" Superman film that sucked all the life out of movie. We were stuck with emo Superman mopping about how Lois Lane doesn't love him anymore and how the world doesn't need Superman.
Brandon Routh was given a lousy script and bad direction, but nevertheless NAILED the role when he stepped into Christopher Reeves shoes. His presence as Superman was perfect, unfortunately they didn't give him much to do but stand around and sulk for half the movie. And as much as the filmmakers wanted to bash Superman III, the irony was that Superman III -- as flawed as cheesy and it was -- is a far more entertaining film than Superman Returns because it has a creative story and has some FUN with its characters like Superman I and II. Superman Returns would have been awesome if he had an exciting script and dynamic characters to work with.
So Zack Synder comes along, removes the ONE element of the new Superman that WORKED brilliantly (Routh), but decides his "reboot" will continue the SAME fatal flaw that made the last Superman fail: a joyless "dark, serious" story with a lame rehashed villain/storyline and a humorless, stern Superman. Talk about doing the exact OPPOSITE of what you need to do to fix Superman.
I just hope Sydner and his fanboys don't get their hands on any other franchises in need of repair. They might make a Terminator "reboot" and decide to keep the stupid stuff from Terminator 3 and 4 but remove anything good from the first two films.
