I personally can't stand the overly-comedic Iron Man films. I'll stick with Batman and Superman.

Iron Man is just a new character, he was introduced in 2008, while Superman is old character and was introduced in 1978, and some people are tired of him, that is why kids today love IM more than Superman, but doesn't mean Superman can't make a box office success. Man of steel was more successful than first two Iron man movies. Iron Man 3 became huge because of Post-Avengers Period. Post avengers, all MCU movies started to break $500 Million Barrier. WAit for Justice league movies, and then see how Man of steel sequels perform at BO.
