Why was Brandon not re-cast for Man of Steel?

I hate it when they re-cast someone new to do a film sequel. An example would of been having Keannu Reeves replaced for Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions. I was very sceptical of Superman Returns, being a big fan of the original Superman movies. However, I was extremely impressed with Brandon Routh's portrayal of Superman/Clark Kent. He imitated Christopher Reeve almost perfectly, and if Christopher was alive today he would have been proud of Brandon's performance. Brandon should have returned once more to the big screen as the best superhero of all time. Good luck to Henry Cavill, he has some seriously big red boots to fill!!

This was a mistake on WB's part.

"Why do you say this to me when you know I will kill you for it?"

It's not a sequel.

Yeah, it's a reboot. The series Smallville which finished up earlier this year took ten years to tell the origin of Superman and the new film coming out in two years will spend about two hours fleshing out the origin of Superman again because we're stupid and we keep forgetting that he's an alien sent to earth. Also we don't want to see his relationship with Lois progress any further than co-ktease at the office and heaven forbid Superman commit any action that's met with earth shattering consequence since that would be considered character development outside the box and would completely ruin the misguided stereotype that he's a perfectly boring superhero unlike the edgy Batman who's allowed to have an illegitimate son out of wedlock in the comics and not be met with the moans of fans and editors who wish it were all a bad dream.

And this is what makes Superman Returns unique. In my honest opinion, that film showed that a superhero from a distant planet can have human emotions ("Even though you have been raised as a human being, you're not one of them").

SMALLVILLE: 218 episodes...and SuperBlur?

I hope you understand that Superman has been portrayed by several different actors throughout the years, so it's nothing like The Matrix.

I quite liked Superman Returns and Routh really looked like a re-vamped version of Reeve. Can't quite understand how his career more or less began and ended with Superman Returns, it's not like he did a terrible job (even if you're really critical).

I think he's on the shortlist of actors to replace Keanu Reeves in The Matrix Retribution, which I believe is set for Summer 2015, no?

Lionel Lunch has got a hunch!

When I saw Superman Returns, I thought Brandon looked too young and he just looked so bland and boring. To me Brandon did nothing for the Superman character and the movie was just awful to.

because Warner Brothers are assh*les. Routh did fine. He should've been in the new Superman movie.
