Women of color

It's getting really old to hear this speech anytime a woman that is black or Latina makes at every awards speech.

Stop the madness and just accept the award without all the politically driven nonsense. It makes people think of you as a whiney baby.

Stand by your talent. No one cares what color you are. act!!!

Absolutely. I think the less you being up characteristics that one can't help (i.e., gender, race) but instead a talent that you have worked really hard on and have shown to amazing -- let's celebrate that!

Tracee Ellis Ross is only the second black woman to win in this category. (Debbie Allen being the first). This year she and Issa rae were the first nominees since 1985. Thats 30 years. Women of color are not chosen to lead Comedy shows. There have been two Latina women to win (America Ferra, Gina Rodrigez) and like one other nomination since then. (eva longoria) So when one wins. they're going to celebrate it for all actors of color who dont get roles. Race still matters.

reply

It doesn't matter really. We are all part of the human race. Why is being a black actor any less worthy of an award than a white actor? It ain't. But...unfortunately, TER took this opportunity to make it all about race when in fact it was an award celebrating her acting achievement. She basically wiped that clean and now anyone that has seen her speak thinks she believes the world owes her something.

I enjoy her acting, but her personality and politics suck.

I absolutely agree with both you and LetsSnack ! Why all the hoopla about race? That *is* racism, the thing most of these hypocrites are vehemently against. People look at me and say that I'm white, but I'm a Heinz 57, and my children even more so (Heinz 58's? LOL!) !! You wanna stop racism, hollyweird? Then quit promoting it!

reply

Bravo. Well said. It is hypocrisy and racist. Be a good person, work hard and don't play the race card. It's an award, which is a privilege, not a right. She earned it and should be proud of her achievement -- not use it to bring awareness about her being a black woman and how minorities don't win enough Golden Globes.

Saying "black actor" or "woman director" or anything like that is qualifying praise, which diminishes it.
