He'd be perfect to direct an adaptation of 'Blood Meridian.'

His vibrant, powerful energy, coupled with a Nick Cave script, would be an incredible vehicle for Cormac McCarthy's superb novel. Make this happen!

Tarantino would butcher Blood Meridian - McCarthy is not at all the sort of material he is suited for. I like the guy, and I know you think he's the absolute greatest gift to cinema, but he needs to stay as far away from this project as possible.

Tarantino has the ability to maintain absolute fidelity to the source material

Uh, he's done just one adaptation before, and that adaptation altered the whole feel of the novel in its translation to the screen.

He could make a musical, a rom-com, a Lynchesque film, pretty much anything. He's chosen to adhere thus far to a specific genre flavor that isn't indicative of the full breadth of his capabilities. Or so I firmly believe.

But Tarantino sticks to what works for him, and considering he hasn't diverged from that "flavor" once in his film career, I don't want him to go anywhere near Blood Meridian, particularly considering that there are so many ideas to chew over in the book that must be translated to the film, and Tarantino's films, while marvelously entertaining, are quite shallow.

I love Tarantino, and maybe he'd make a good 'Blood Meridian' film, but he wouldn't make a film of the book - he definitely would change it to fit his own vision, leaving us with something completely unlike Cormac McCarthy's novel. Besides, I'm pretty sure Tarantino has said he wants to work on his own original material from now on, something about him liking complete control of his own work.

I don't think the Coens should approach it either. They did a great job on 'No Country For Old Men' but I think 'Blood Meridian' is too dark even for them. There's no black humour in 'Blood Meridian' for them to rely upon.

Come to think of it, could anyone tackle 'Blood Meridian' and do it justice? Ridley Scott COULD do it justice; his directorial style is both beautiful and brutal, but he has a bad track record at choosing writers for his projects (see Prometheus, Robin Hood, Body of Lies). Winding Refn is undoubtedly finding his feet as a great director and his mixture of grittiness, stylish cinematography and hyper-violence would suit 'Blood Meridian' very well, but he has never proven himself with a project on that scale before.

Really? Because I think it's there in spades. From Sproule's "I come out here for my health" to the murder of Owens ("Most terrible n____r I've ever seen"), Blood Meridian is rife with black humor. In fact, it might be even more darkly humorous than anything else he's ever written, with the possible exception of Child of God.

As for Refn, I think he's cut his teeth on enough projects to be able to tackle Blood Meridian. It really isn't a broadly epic story as most people think it is, but rather a darkly personal tale of the nature of evil.

"AAAAAAAH it's WHEEZIN' ED! And...and SOME OTHER GUY!"

Owww this is the smartest post I've seen on IMDb in a while. Refn would be perfect, however in reality I don't think it's possible to film a dense literary work such as Blood Meridian.
