A very talented actor and person
Jerry Reed was pretty well-known in my lifetime and I always liked him. I thought he was great in "The Waterboy" as Red Beaulieu (Believe it or not, I had never seen any of the "Smokey And The Bandit" movies until a couple of years ago). I liked the music I heard from him ("She Got The Gold Mine, I Got The Shaft"). He seemed like he was a lot like the characters he often portrayed on screen...a likable, good ol' country boy.
However, for the longest time, I never realized what a great guitarist Reed was. He was really good friends with Chet Atkins and they often played together (and Reed more than held his own playing with the great Chet). Reed could really play...he really was a talented musician and actor.
He's been gone over 14 years now. He's one of the celebrities I would have liked to have met in person. He had quite a career as both an actor and musician. RIP, Jerry Reed.
