Potatoe

Remember when his misspelling of potato as “potatoe” was the most controversial political news? Oh how far we have come!

reply

I don't think it was controversial was it?

Just embarrassing.

Embarrassing yes, but at least he knows how many states there are in the U.S.

reply

You don't know that for sure!

… over the last 15 months we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in fifty …. seven states? I think one left to go.

I'm not a fan of the guy, but it's obvious someone (probably the teacher) purposely gave him a cue card with the word misspelled just to embarrass him. Sure, he should've noticed, but apparently some of the reporters present weren't sure about the spelling either.

reply

Wow I never heard this "conspiracy theory" that POTATOE was spelled with an E on his cue card.

Makes perfect sense, yet the media raked him over the coals for this, in typical liberal fashion.

He didn't know what the kids had been taught by their teacher. Both spellings are technically correct, but the "no e" spelling is more modern.

We didn't have enough counter-balances to the Lame Stream Media back then to balance out all the criticism.

"According to The New York Times[39] and Quayle's memoirs, he was relying on cards provided by the school, which Quayle says included the misspelling. Quayle said he was uncomfortable with the version he gave, but did so because he decided to trust the school's incorrect written materials instead of his own judgment."

I don't think it was just a "mistake".
