Fascinating, yet somehow unfulfilling

While I enjoyed the original CSI very much and wanted to like the spin-offs, ultimately CSI: Miami didn't do it for me.
But I have dropped into the ION reruns lately and I remember being fascinated by Ms Procter, and I'm not sure why. She's very pretty but somehow she isn't that alluring ... but then again, she sort of is. I end up watching her and wondering what is missing. The light drawl is nice, to me it adds character, but she seems a little too static, like she's afraid to move too much and mess up her hair. But I still want to observe her, waiting for that moment when she comes across as something more than a slightly enigmatic pretty girl/woman who lucked into a good role.
Helgenberger, Shue, and even the seemingly much disliked Jorja Fox all feel much more comfortable and relatable in their roles versus Ms Procter.
And I find it a little fascinating.

Didn't CSI Miami turn into a full-on David Caruso vehicle after a few seasons when the show rose to International Hit status? When you watch the rest of the cast they all act very much like supporting cast members who operate under the nose of Caruso's demeanor which was always one-note and imho tinged with an air of arrogance.

I didn't want to get into the Caruso angle. I really dislike watching him but figure I'm very biased so no point in blabbing about it. The show pretty much sucked IMO, but at the beginning I was ready to roll with it and I thought Procter was appealing in some odd way. All these years later I still find her enigmatic but sort of empty. Whether that has to do with it being a Caruso vehicle I haven't reckoned with, but she hasn't had much a career outside of Miami, that I know of.
And to be fair, it's a lot to ask of a TV star to twice catch lightning in a bottle. But even Adam Rodriguez at least has a comfortable attitude that makes him easy to watch, even if he doesn't carry a show. Procter seems brittle, and she has an odd quality of seemingly flawless beauty yet not that alluring.
I guess it comes down to production and directing. Like Miami Vice, the show was made with a certain high-style technique, idealized realism, so unless one is inclined to enjoy that look, it's a hard sell to the rest of us.

I thought she was great in The West Wing but in CSI: Miami just didn't have much to do. At least as far as I could tell because, in truth, I didn't watch too any episodes due to my very low tolerance of Caruso and his perpetually pouty, posey style. She seems to have mostly walked away from acting now which is a pity.
