I like him, but he's not really leading man material when it comes to dramatic romantic roles. He's just too goofy and more suited for comedy or action/adventure roles imo. I do think he would have made a good Indiana Jones, but as usual Hollywood oversaturates actors to the point that people get sick of them and no longer want to see them (case in point: Jennifer Lawrence).
That all being said, I don't think this flop was his or Jennifer's fault. It was a scheduling fail. They put this up against two of the biggest movies of the year and a third (Assassin's Creed) that would do well, too. Not a good move on Sony's part. It should have been released in March/April during a slower time.
And Magnificent Seven didn't do well because it was remake of a remake that nobody was interested in seeing. It would have done poorly regardless of who was in it. Chris Pratt wasn't really the headliner in it either. It was Denzel Washington, and it was more of an ensemble cast. People don't see movies because of any one actor anymore. They go for the story first, and then the actor. That is exactly why Johnny Depp's movies flop outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Producers keep making the mistake of thinking people will see any movie as long as Johnny Depp is in it, and that just isn't the case in this day and age when people can watch movies so easily and comfortably at home.
