It's not dumb at all. Progressives are neither assaulting it nor abusing it. Progressives use it and have been trying to use it since the abolition of slavery. So conservatives have spun it into abusing it. They think killing people is freedom of speech or staging coups on the Capitol. It's how oppressive laws come about and the Right knows it well. Abuse any freedom and it will be taken away. It's how parking meters came about, prohibition (until it led to people abusing it more), drug laws came about and how we lost IMDB. The right knows that if they abuse the freedom of speech that it will be taken away from us. Take the madness of non stop conspiracies. That's a conspiracy in itself. There are so many fake conspiracy theories going around they have absolutely buried the real ones so that if anything should happen in the future no one will take it seriously.
