This just says it all.

He has a part in this new pilot with Spike Lee and James Woods.

He's done a movie.

He had the lead on Point Pleasant.

He had a part on American Dreams.

His contract was terminated, three years early, by All My Children.

Everyday, in everyway, it becomes more and more obvious to me that the people in charge of soaps, especially ABC soaps, do not have a clue who is hot, who is talented, who is appealing to the audience. That's why the ratings are so low. Right now I could really get on my soapbox about all of this but since I'm sure Sam is much happier with three primetime series and a movie than he would have been just doing a silly little soap I'll leave it alone by just saying I agree with you. The man is HOT!

I don't know who was responsible. I actually think Cameron Matheson was not on the show at the time. He took a year off about the time that Sam came on the show. I really don't know any details. Sam had a big part on the show and all of the sudden it was announced that he would be leaving the show. I thought at first that he probably just had a one year contract but then the word got out that he had been terminated. About the same time the President of ABC gave a general interview and he mentioned that someone had spam emailed him 1,500 "Don't fire Sam Page" and said something about a change in storyline direction being the reason that Sam was leaving. I was so mad that I quit watching AMC and I've never really gotten back into it.

They wouldn't have had to pay him for the other three years though. Soaps have some kind of funky contracts that the actor is committed for how ever many years the contract is for but the show can cut an actor at the end of every 13 week period without paying them for the rest of the contract . Its not exactly an equitable arrangement but soaps are the starting ground for most actors and I guess if you're starting out a contract is a good thing no matter how unfair it is.

I'm just always happy to see Sam turn up on something new. I think he got a bad deal from AMC but he's certainly overcome it. I don't imagine there's an actor or actress on AMC that wouldn't dump that show in a heartbeat for a chance at working on this pilot with Spike Lee and James Woods.
