Nolan is the best?

Can't help but chuckle at the mere thought of Nolan as the greatest filmmaker that ever lived. The way you fanboys endlessly prop him up is pathetic! Treating him like a god? What a joke. Kubrick and Scorsese wipes the floor with him.

reply

Only those who didn't watch Nolan's films do not contemplate him as the greatest filmmaker of all time.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

And attempt at humor i presume?

Nolan is a competent, above avorage filmmaker with a few good films in his filmography, but that's all. No måtter how much you attempt to artificially inflate his alleged genius.

To even think Nolan is capable of rivaling the greats of cinema to which their films have stood the test of time is utter insanity.

reply

Nolan is the most over rated film maker around. People like to act like he is up there with Hitchcock, Kubrick, Spielberg, Scorsese, etc. His first 2 Batman movies are good. Everything else is mediocre at best. He is great at making a 6/10 film.

reply

So glad to see that other people feel this way. I haven’t been truly impressed with one of his films since Insomnia (and certain aspects of The Prestige). It blows my mind how overrated this guy is.

reply

Just think about this.

When ever in history did a filmmaker made 7 masterpieces in just 15 years, never made even just an average film, had this big of a following, made this much money, made his name as recognizable as the industry-leading actors and never polarized or devided critics and audiences (not as important)?

I understand that non of his films were even able to stand the test of 40 years, but everything points at this being a walk in a park for nearly all of his films. Memento, The Dark Knight and Inception are all widely considered top 10 movies of a century as well as having no problem going up against all time classics. Yes, I am looking at Godfather and Citizen Kane.

In terms of just straight up track record there really is no doubt that Kubrick is the best. However... he was in the industry for nearly 40 years, Nolan is making equaly good films with way higher frequency.

He is well on track of becoming the best of all time. Unless, of course, you consider this title retired to someone like Hitchcock without whom our generation of filmmakers wouldn't be what they are.

Oh, and just BTW Nolan is a genius with an IQ of 147. Anything above 140 is genius or near genius.

Commercial success doesn’t necessarily mean that a film is a masterpiece. Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece. There Will Be Blood is a masterpiece. No offense, but nothing that Nolan has ever done even comes close to the level of skill one needs to exhibit for their film to be called the M word. The man makes beautifully shot popcorn flicks that are each more structurally messy than the one that came before it. The only reason his films are held in such high regard at all is because modern Hollywood has set the bar so incredibly low with all of the superhero bullshit they pump down our throats nowadays. If you would have dropped Nolan’s films into the mix back in the mid to late 70’s, no one would have blinked an eye (minus the special effects, obviously).

reply

There is so much truth in the above post. His critics can't seem to understand that.

reply

Perhaps it's because his critics don't see them as masterpieces.

Completely shallow films dressed up as important, and intelligent, and massive pacing issues would be top of my reasons to not agree.

Nolan hasn't made seven masterpieces. In terms of lasting legacy, only Memento, The Dark Knight and Inception seem likely to outlive their own fanbase.

Hardly anyone talks about his other movies. Following and Insomnia have incredibly limited appeal, likewise his best movie, The Prestige. Batman Begins has been eclipsed by TDK, Interstellar has already been forgotten, while TDKR is dreadful.

reply

Interstellar has been forgotten? its funny how it is in offical iMax website as full sized image when you click on few links. I think all theaters rises the Interstellar as most cinematic success in industry. Even so he is indeed one of most gross-making movie director. That is fact I believe (it is on internet, not sure if true but It is on internet).

Huh?
