"What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round?" (RIP Mike Nesmith)

shareMy favourite Monkees track
shareYeah, well-written song was good enough to be worthy of The Grateful Dead or The Byrds.
shareI love Mike Nesmith, but this song was not written by Nez. It's by the the same guy who wrote the minor hit "Wildfire", Michael Martin Murphy. They were friends back during the Monkees days, (per wiki).
And yes, I understand you did not claim it was written by Nez, but I had to point it out.

However, he DID write "Different Drum", which was a Top 20 hit for Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys

...and recorded his own version of it as well:

As another poster pointed out, not written by him, but of course Nesmith wrote a few of the Monkeys' songs himself. Mary Mary is my favorite of his. He was the most talented of the Monkeys musically and the most frustrated that they wouldn't let the Monkees have more to do with the music.

RIP.
Mike had a bunch of great songs. I was a Monkees fan before being a Beatles fan. I got to see Mickey, Pete, and Davy in 2001, and Mike and Mickey in 2018 just before they cancelled the tour due to Mike's heart issue. Now Mickey needs to unite with Paul and Ringo and form the Beatmonks!
