Him as Roland of Gilead

He is one they should cast as the older Roland. I still can't believe they want Russell Crowe. His dark look and southern accent would go well with the language the people from Gilead speak. If it ever gets out of pre-production that is...

Totes!
He needs to stick to tough, grizzled gunslinger types.
I think he's definitely found his acting niche with landing 'Hell on Wheels'
Seeing pics of him in his earlier work, he looks totally wrong (especially clean shaven)!
The man was clearly *born* to play Cowboys (like Clint Eastwood)!
And hey - sometimes type-casting can be a good thing!
Yeehaw! ;)

Yeah, I can totally see him as Roland. That would be great casting.

First time I saw him I thought of Roland
probably never happen in my life time but I can dream

Wow! That is a great idea! When I think of Roland, no one (other than Viggo) comes to mind, but Anso would be ideal. Now all we need is someone to actually make the movie/mini series/ TV series.

They just got a new director for The Dark Tower, but they haven't cast anyone yet, my hope is that Anson gets the part of Roland.

I agree, and he would be perfect in this role.

I think I'll have a large order of prognosis negative.

Of course, ideally you'd want the Clint Eastwood of yesteryear as Roland of Gilead. But as that is impossible, I'm on board with Anson Mount.

I see Roland as a cross between a Western gunslinger and an Arthurian Knight (Knights of the Round Table), the Knight being foremost. Said Knight, however, is not all bright and freshly minted; a guy nearing the end of many long, long campaigns after his comrades have long died. And at times the demeanor of an Arthurian King (possibly Eld himself) flashes through.

In my mind's eye the speech of Gilead would be closer to a movie "medieval" sound. Even how the Low Speech is written is more along archaic English.

Physically, Anson would have been perfect. His weary, no nonsense Western gunslinger could not be better. I don't know how he would have handled playing an Arthurian Knight so I have no clue if he would have been suited for the role.
