Monaghan discussed the saga's greater emphasis on diversity when asked if there were any plans for him to reprise his Rise of Skywalker role Beaumont Kin, during an interview with Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette. "Quite rightly, the Star Wars Universe is telling more stories about women and people from different cultures and backgrounds," he said. "Maybe they're done with telling stories of mid-40-year-old white guys, but I’m always available if they’re interested."
Monaghan's response is an apparent reference to Lucasfilm's current slate of Star Wars projects, many of which are headlined by non-white and/or non-male protagonists. This includes upcoming Mandalorian spinoff series Ahsoka and long-gestating Solo: A Star Wars Story tie-in Lando, which star Rosario Dawson and Donald Glover, respectively. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently explained why Lando has seemingly stalled, attributing the delay to Glover's backlog of pre-existing showbiz commitments.
